Dope! I deco like the way you've mixed this. I know it's nothing new but that little 1 bar pause on the drop before the bass comes in hits just as hard as it should. Overall not too many bad things to say. Good work

Nice! Pretty clean. I think the main drop area could maybe use a bit more low end? Just a suggestion. I definitely feel this one

Pretty cool idea you've got! One suggestion I would make is that you need more sub. I am listening back with my 8" monitors and 10" sub and barely feel any low end. Seems like it cuts off right around 80 hz

Dope track! I think the main clap could stand out a little more though and possibly make the stabby plucky chord synth in the beginning a little quieter compared to the melody, but other than that really original stuff!!
I definitely agree with these points. Overall, really dig the vibe you've got!

Keep it up

Good stuff here. Clean mix, really groovy bass line. Maybe think about adding another main element like a melody. Something floating around in the background to add more space and groove. But just a subjective suggestion :) Definitely like what you've got here

Really impressive stuff. Super clean mix, punchy kick, awesome space and ambiance. Are these original vocals? Love the talent of that singer. You've definitely got something special man. Keep it up

Wow I was very impressed with this! Gave the original a listen just out of curiosity. I'd say you did it justice! I love that delayed pluck that comes in around 2:00 during the second break. I also like the mixing on the piano during the breakdown.

One piece of advice would be to put more low end in your break downs. There seems to be 0 low end - and that may be what you were going for but it would definitely keep the track from slowing down so much.

Maybe try and get the kick a bit punchier as well. I have a sub so I can feel the low end coming from it when it hits, but the top end gets pretty lost in the mix, especially during the second drop.

Definitely keep it up!

1. People hate on the idea but don't worry about being 100% original when you start out. I tried that for the first few months and nearly drove myself mad. I had absolutely no idea where to start. A good place to start is to find sounds / songs that inspire you and try and recreate pieces of them. Not so you can release it and call it yours, but for the sake of practice.

2. Listen to the work you have done outside of your studio and listen on many different sources: iPhone speakers, on ear headphones, over ear headphones, your buddies s#@$y car speakers, anywhere. Doing this will give you a fresh perspective on your projects and help clear your mind which will allow you to realize what you want/need to do next.

3. Finish a song as often as possible. I started writing a new song every week or so and it has helped immensely. If i work on one project for too long, I get bored, my ears get fatigued, and I start to hate it. Artists like Madeon have spent 200+ hours on a single track. But he's been doing this for like 10 years. If you're new, don't worry if you didn't spend 200 hours on a track. Just try to finish as many songs/ideas as possible.

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: What Makes Music Worth Your Time?
« on: February 12, 2016, 10:54:20 pm »
All these hours we dedicate to our craft and people may never care about our music. Many people will never give it a listen. More people will just skim through it and move on to the next track.

I feel like I'm having somewhat of a quarter life crisis when it comes to thinking about whether all that time was worth it considering the things I had to give up because of it.

Does anyone else feel the same way?

Honestly, in the end, I think most artists feel this way...Or at least they have at some point. When you boil it down, all that really matters in creativity, passion, and just life in general is that you truly enjoy what you spend your time doing.

A very tough but important question every artist needs to ask themselves is: "Would I be doing this if I never made a dime from it? Am I just doing this because I don't have anything better to do?"

What you are feeling is normal. I think the most important thing at the end of the day is to let musical creativity be play, not work. Don't force anything. If you're not feeling creative, do something else for a little while and come back.

And never compare your music to anybody else's unless it's because you're using their stuff as a reference mix. Trying to compare your music to that of somebody who has already had major success isn't fair to yourself.

An inspiration as always man. It blows my mind how many different types of music you're able to make while still holding onto that very familiar sound that makes every one of your tracks very identifiably a 'Mat Zo' sound.

Damage control is still one of my favorite album and I am stoked about Self Assemble

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Training your ears (EQ). Any suggestions?
« on: February 12, 2016, 06:59:23 pm »
It isn't free but it's well worth the money.

http://www.moultonlabs.com/full/product01

I went to school for audio engineering and we spent 30 minutes at the beginning of one of my classes using this to train throughout the semester. It is a very effective way to train your ears. The concept, you'll hear pink noise (pretty much even volume throughout the frequency spectrum) and then they will make a 10dB boost or cut in a specific area and you have to guess where that boost or cut happened.

The boosts/cuts happen within a smaller and smaller range as you go through the disc so your ear becomes more laser focused on frequencies.

A recommendation: if you do buy them, do it at the beginning of the day and ONLY do it for 30 min or so at a time. Any more and your ears become fatigued and the effort is wasted.

Hope this helps!

I dig this one! Maybe try and add some more ambiance throughout. It is a bit simple for my taste.

Really like the mix you've got though. Super clean, heavy bass, nice floaty pads.

Just my subjective opinion but I think this track could be even cooler if you sped it up. The BPMS feel too slow to me for this type of song.

Definitely keep up the good work

Are you using serum for the bass? I like this track, but my emotions seem to cross and become confusing for me a bit. Soothing and a kickass bassline? Is like weed and crack lol.
I actually use reason so I am using all propellerhead synths for sound design. And I am gonna take that as a compliment haha. I do aim for different extremes throughout my songs. Just like a lot of stuff on Enhanced or Anjunabeats, I like my music to take listeners from one extreme to another :)

Here it is in all it's glory. Spent about a week and a half on this one. Very pleased with the result.

As always, I would love any feedback you guys may have. Positive or negative, every piece of feedback I have received thus far from this forum has been immensely helpful.

Enjoy  ;D
