Mixing/Mastering / Re: Mastering with the kick near 0 dB
« on: February 21, 2016, 06:11:53 am »
Use some light saturation on your kick just to bring that transient down to the rest of your track, that will be really hard to master if it's that far above the rest of your track. Whenever I use a transient shaper, I'll throw a saturator on my effects chain straight after a few db of gain so that it sounds transparent. It just keeps you're dynamics under control and makes mastering a whole lot easier!
Well for the first time with my latest trackI used waves transx and after all the master processing,as I move away from the speakers, the kick's low end seems to disappear. Will be trying this saturation trick.

I leave the level of the kick untouched and I mix everything around the kick.Well because how I generally mix,my kicks in my older tracks were lost in the mix,so after eqing and adjusting levels, and if your kick isn't punching through, you can always turn the kick up.

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Cut Very Low Frequencies?
« on: February 20, 2016, 06:30:27 am »
You don't "have" to do anything. However cutting those super low frequencies would be a good idea. The more you cut,the more room you have for the other frequencies. That's one of the reasons you should practice subtractive equalizing.I always have an eq on the master which cuts below 20Hz and everything above 18K Hz and around. Also,if you,for any reason, want to boost some frequencies on eq on the master output, for boosting you should always linear phase eqs.

Do you feel you lose the sizzle at the top cutting at 18k?
I've tried it before and I don't know how I feel.
To be honest with you,I sort of believe that all sounds over 18K should be cut cause the sound after 18K Hz won't be audible or even if it is,it'll probably be spoiling your mix.Anyway,if a cut to 18K is filtering out your main sounds, you could try eqing them individually(and no matter what sort of an excuse you might have,be sure to eq everything),or you could just keep the cut till about 19.4K or just 20K and place a high shelf at 18K of around -1.5db to -7db

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Mixing On Monitors vs Headphones
« on: February 18, 2016, 01:11:54 pm »
For 3D mixing, you need to have a bit of both I think. For example, when I'm working on panning and stereo width,I always prefer my headphones, however when I'm pushing along the depth dimension,I always prefer my speakers. But then again, you can work anyway you want, but I think at the end, when you think it's finished, you should always have a listen on headphones, your studio monitors, sometimes even your laptop speakers or the speakers of your phone. You just want sort of standard-ise your mix for all platforms.

Mixing/Mastering / Random Noise In the Mix.
« on: February 14, 2016, 10:59:33 am »
Hey guys,
I've been working on this track for a while and this just started two days ago,and Now I can't go to my backups cause my backups also have this.
So yesterday I started experiencing a white noise problem.
There's random white noise(which also exists in the track when I bounce it out) which appears to be coming out of no particular source.Like the there's a random stop in all the tracks in the arrangement and noise comes in and then it goes back to the way I created it and the way it was meant to be,except the Noise repeats itself after intervals.
I'm using Logic Pro X and I've never had such an issue with any DAW.
I've had a similar issue with FL Studio, except the White Noise didn't exist in the Bounce.
Could anyone help me in resolving this?

You just need a Laptop with a DAW.
After you've been using it for a few months and have got a bit comfortable with it.
I'd recommend that you get Headphones(I use Audio Technica) and a Midi Keyboard and if possible, studio monitors.

Mixing/Mastering / Understanding Phase
« on: January 23, 2016, 04:56:57 am »
I'm really really weak on this topic.
All I really know is phase can really mess up and make up the mix.
So Could anyone address the following:
What is Phase? Linear Phase?
Signs to recognise in Phase or out of Phase?
How to adjust the Phase of a sound?
And ways for phase cancellation?
Also,can stereo width affect phase?If yes,then how?

Yeah,I'm aware of that.
Well to be honest,it's just one of my styles.
And well specifically for this track,I actually automated stuff from the compressors during the intro and outro and the drops(not exactly a drop)

I just put my track up on Soundcloud which is called Antidote.
Consists of the progressive rock type sound that I really enjoy.
I would really like your thoughts on it.

Mixing/Mastering / Mixing in 3 Dimensions

Basically,I've realised that when people say all sounds should have their space,it's about the stereo width and depth.
Now what are the tools you could use to emulate a deeper and a wider mix?

Mixing/Mastering / Tips for Clean Mix like Professionals
« on: January 14, 2016, 04:37:16 pm »
I've been told by many guys that instruments should have their own space.
This involves widening the sound and also panning.
But as far as I can tell from how much Dance Music I've been listening to for the past 2 and a half years,I've yet to hear a professional track with extreme panning or even to an extent that you can really make out that it's favouring one side more than the other.
Take Hardwell's latest single,Blackout
If you haven't heard it already, give it a shot.

As for the drop,I can make out that the leads are widened, but I haven't heard an instrument that's panned.
Can anyone explain, how these professionals are doing their Stereo Imaging and just how exactly are most of the instruments occupying space at the centre?

Mixing/Mastering / Headroom in Mixdown
« on: January 13, 2016, 02:01:43 pm »
So I have a question.
What are the advantages of keeping headroom in your Mixdown?
I understand that this would be useful if you're Eq-ing on the Master Channel.
But I'm not really Eq-ing on the Master Channel except cutting everything below 20Hz and everything after 18000 or 19400Hz.
So does the Headroom,in anyway, help in processing better or help in achieving a better sound?
