WIPs / Re: Future Bass Tune | Feedback pls
« on: January 21, 2016, 05:17:39 pm »
Am I allowed to say: too much future bass tracks?

Anyway, sounds good. No complaints other than it sounds like the what's currently hot.

Not bad.

Everything sounds like it has it's own space.
My own personal taste: after the saws hit, you have a reverb trail that sounds weird. I'd cut that.

Better.

I still think you could use some compression to squash the sound and make it a little crunchier. I think it'll help you. Good groove though.

Woof.

I know you don't need to always stay in key and can use borrowed notes but my ears are so confused as to what they are listening to. I feel...disoriented.

Your drop really lacks energy. The build up was good and then.....flat.

Sound Design / Re: Toms processing

Isn't that process just called 'eq'ing' and 'stereowidth manipulation'? What IO'm trying to say is that the description of the problem is half of the solution.

I don't know which samples you are talking about, there's no audio file but you can describe what's the problem, so use some tools to get rid of that problem; cut the lows with an eq and make it less wide with M/S processing.

Toms are bassy indeed and will always fight with the bassline. But it's better to deal with it in the mix than starting with thin samples.

If eq doesn't work to get rid of too much bass on the toms, try a multiband compressor; bracket the bassy sound in one band and lower it, like a volume slider.

Well...I wouldn't have created this thread if I didn't already try EQing and lowering the stereo width haha.

But I can always try again!

Sound Design / Re: SUB BASS HELP! (C0-C1) OR (C1-C2)??

Co-C1 is my sub.

Anything above that is my lower-mid bass.

Whenever I want to use toms, they sound terrible. Either too bassy or just too wide.

Is it just bad sample selection or is there certain processing to get them to sound punchy and centered rather than boomy and wide?

Sounds like you used a similar sound like this in the beginning of your track 'Reentry'

Plus an arp on the build-up/chorus very similar in arrangement.

WIPs / Re: "Falling Clear" -- My first song, advice sought!

It's actually very good for a first song, I really love the style your going to. The "Woodblock pluck" (or how you wanna call it) starting at 2:00 is a bit off place in my opinion, it doesn't have to be there for me. Just like the downpart, it's not in style with the rest of your track.

My advice: listen to some tracks from Fehrplay, Grum, Capa,... to get some inspiration to finish it. Don't worry about the mixdown too much, it will come later ;)

I completely disagree with the 'not in style'. MY advice: never try and conform your songs to a style. Be experimental and try different things. I think the down tempo actually works very well as a nice change of pace.

Fair enough, everyone has his own opinion :) As long as he's happy with the downpart, I'm good  8)

Yes they do. But since he's new, I wouldn't want to say: do it this way or that way!
Give him/her time to figure out what style they like. For example: I cannot stay put on one idea in a song for too long because it bores me. All my tracks have multiple  ideas and that's how I like it. Others hate it. But that's just a taste thing.

Your bass on the down tempo part really lacks clarity/bite. In my opinion: If you strip out some layers layer and make it less legato, you can get a good groove going. Just a thought. The rhythm in that part is pretty straight forward. I like the glitching though.
But I like your arrangement there, nice change of pace.

For a noob, it's not bad. But a lot of these things will come in time, to be honest.

Sound Design / Re: Automating your Chords ("Future Bass Type")
« on: January 19, 2016, 08:33:40 pm »
You can turn an Ableton Auto Pan plugin into a tremelo by setting the Phase to 0 or 360 degrees... then you can play with the shape (morphing between sine and square)... and you can sync it up...

I've got a feeling making a synths/FX stack of chords, then jamming the whole stack through an Auto Pan tremolo, would get you close.

This is one of my favorite methods/effects. Underused in my opinion.

I have to edit the mix still of course, I only started it today

How could I add more power/bang to it?, also, I don't have sausage fattener

Hehe Sausage fattener.

Well, your bass sound is completely rolled off at the top end. It's all mids and lows. In order to give it more punch and power, it needs some high end.

Compression would help in crunching everything too. Your wav form is very dynamic. Give it some compression and it will sound tighter.

Can barely hear the mid bass. Hearing a lot of sub. But if this is nuero I'd expect to hear more movement in the mid bass frequency range.
