I hear really good things about the new Razor 'Razorblade'
its a gaming computer but they have been marketing it for producers also and I know a few people have been raving about it.

I asked moar levi if it is worth the hype and he backed it 100 percent!

not sure about price though!!  I assume its expensive as with most things in the gaming world.

Could you link me? Never heard and a google search returned all razorblades.

You'll probably get the best results if you build it yourself, so you only get what you need. This guide might help. You'll want lots of storage and RAM, plus a sound card to reduce latency.

Too lazy to build myself. So that's a non-option. Although I will want space for customization and additions.

Best places to buy for a computer that's purely for making music.

I have a $1500 max limit.

Out of curiosity, what kind of music are you making?

Closest equivalent: melodic dubstep.

I'm trying to use this technique but I feel like I'm failing because it's not giving me that organic, starry sound.

It just sounds like I'm doing a really fast arp with delay/reverb. What am I doing wrong here?
Are your filter settings correct? You should be automating the cutoff of the bandpass filter. can you upload an example of your sound as it sounds right now?

Here you go. I'm having trouble giving it that organic feel. It just feels so...in a grid.

Sure, I'll have a go.

Here's my result.

I used Sylenth1 for this one. Surprise, surprise. :)

Part A consists of two saw oscillators with 8 voices each, one slightly more detuned than the other. For more subtle harmonics I mixed in two square oscillators from Part B going into the same filter used in Part A. The filter used in A is a 12dB lowpass with some slight drive to it. This filter is being modulated by LFO 1 where I've chosen the saw envelope and set the rate to 1/16th - the transient shape of this envelope is where your 'pluck' sound comes from.

The "sparklyness" in those Infinitum chords sounds like the "Decimate" distortion module from Sylenth1. The sweet spot for this particular sound is a setting between 3.00-4.00 with around 20% wetness.

After this I brightened things up a little with some EQ and compression. The EQ really brought out the "sparklyness" caused by the distortion:

So yeah, that's about it, here's my preset. Hope you found it informative.  ;D

Seems pretty close to me.

32 notes? or arp setting used?

It is a cool sound. Sounds like he really upped one of the high frequencies and reduxed it.
I'll let him speak.

I'm actually interested in the pluck rhythm. Those 32 notes with some ping pong delay thrown on?

Yeah,I'm aware of that.
Well to be honest,it's just one of my styles.
And well specifically for this track,I actually automated stuff from the compressors during the intro and outro and the drops(not exactly a drop)

Your style is to trick the listener? Okay. That's fine, as long as that's what you were going for.

I enjoy it man. Lots of interesting elements.

I'm always of the mindset with my songs: do what sounds cool.
Don't try and play it safe. I say this because it's clear you just went with what you felt you wanted rather than trying to make a certain sound. You got a follower.

Sounds good.

I make melodic dubstep a lot too, so I know how hard it can be at times to mix those growls with the supersaws. It can become cluttered quick.

Yes!! That's exactly what I was looking for!
I would be so glad if you can do that for me.
    Thanks!
Perfect! So right off the bat, a lot of this sound's power is in the processing. The initial source signal isn't as important! You need something with some natural width and lots of harmonics.

    ...

Damn! Thanks man! Didn't expect this quality!

So I tried it on massive and I put multiple voices with a tiny bit of detune instead of chorus and It sounds not really bad either![/list]
Awesome, I'd love to hear it if you could upload a clip.

Wow, I'd love to read anything and everything you have to say about sound design.  Feel free to provide tutorial articles or whatever because that is just top notch!  The "why" behind everything is so valuable and not enough people explain that aspect of their sound design.
Thanks a ton, that's something I feel sound design tutorials need. They should explain some about the magic of each knob and parameter, so that the person learning can leave the tutorial knowing more than he/she did before. When I was starting out, tutorials would oftentimes leave me feeling more confused than before I had watched!

Sure! It sounds not really perfect though

Better luck than me. Haven't gotten that very glittery/starry effect yet. Clearly doing something wrong.

    Great song, love your work.

I wanted to go with a similar concept in one of my tracks around starting at 2:11. That break.
Whenever I try and create some sort of tension, it always falls so flat.

It seems so simple in my head:

    1 pad
    1 maybe sub bass
1 main melody with a lot of delay
    1 main arp
1 misc instrument creating a bell like sound

But I'm failing so hard. A little embarrassed to be asking, tbh. Any help is appreciated.

    Not bad.

Everything sounds like it has it's own space.
My own personal taste: after the saws hit, you have a reverb trail that sounds weird. I'd cut that.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. When you say everything has its own space means it's good right? Lol

Yup, that's typically a good thing.
