This is really well done dude! The mix sounds pretty clean to me. Only complaint mix wise is around 1:30 when you introduce that background vocal kinda thing its a bit overbearing, I think turning it down just a few dB should do the trick. Aside from that I love the vibe of the track. The buildup is well done and I love the almost pause when the drop hits and everything kicks in with the hi hats.

Dig your style man. Threw you a follow on soundcloud. I'm down to exchange some projects and possibly work together!

hahah love the honesty, im using "food poisoning" for my next working title.

@Arktopolis Yeah I tried to keep it unquantized but I guess after listening to it a gajillion times I didn't realize how sloppy my playing was haha. Also agreed on the tom hits in the beginning, changed that up a bit more

@Will thanks! I took your feedback for the second drop and changed up the bass line and I'm digging it a lot more now!

Here's the updated version with all the changes. still iffy on the buildup, I'm thinking of maybe adding a riser or something in the background but ill sit on it for a bit more. All the feedback is appreciated

WIPs / Re: Move your feet (deño remix) - Bass House / Breakbeat

Dude this is so sick, I'd spin this in a set. Took a few listens, all I can really say is the first listen through the first drop felt a bit empty ( around :33). Maybe add some sidechained white noise to keep the energy up? Just a suggestion, it feels a bit empty. Also the second drop when it goes half time/breakbeat is really well done, favourite part of the song for me

I really dig man, the intro/buildup is well done. Mix is solid. I love the shaker at 1:30. Everything sounds pretty spot on to me, I agree with Babasmas' point on variation to make it longer but you have all the elements you need

Sound Design / Re: SERUM Tips & Tricks
« on: January 08, 2016, 09:31:26 pm »
One trivial thing that took me a long to figure out in serum was how sometimes when modulating a parameter with an lfo, the lfo would modulate on both sides of the center point of the knob and sometimes it would begin on the center. To toggle this setting open up the modulation matrix and click on the arrows that point like this <-> and it will change to this -> and vice versa. Super trivial but also really annoying.

Another really great thing serum can do is resynthesis where you can import a sound and serum will create a wavetable based on it. The best way I've found to import a sound from another synth is to bounce an instance of the noise you want to import to audio tuned to F#0 and -22 cents, and drop it into the 2048 tab on an oscillator. It goes over this method in the user manual. This can really open up endless possibilities.

-deño

you can also click the parameter while holding alt+shift to change between <-> and ->

Been sitting on this one for a while, I think I have some good ideas here but not really sure where to take it. There's one sound in the drop I dont like (it'll stick out) and I need to do a different second drop. I'd love to hear any feedback on the mix

WIPs / Re: Breakbeat? Idk, something different for me.

I could picture Danny Brown on this, that'd be tight haha. I dig it man, the only feedback I can really give you is that I felt like it took too long to go anywhere. That last section is cool but I got a bit bored waiting to see what would happen next. And when the next part came it was really cool but then that kinda droned out till the end as well

tight track man, love the future housey bass sound, you've got good groove in the track and some nice sections, I'm gonna echo what the others said though and say shorten it up a bit and excite the highs in the mix! Also I feel like the vocal is a bit too loud in the drop, and it doesn't really hit as hard as it could i feel. but yeah sweet remix dude, never heard the original till now either and im in love with it now haha

WIPs / Re: Comes out flat after break, any ideas?

Dimension expander, touch of reverb, short delay(haas effect).

Maybe some side chained white noise in the background when the drop hits, or a crash/impact/something. Just some ideas to try out! I dig your drums

dude this is sweet, sub sounds fine to me. I agree with the kick and snare not being punchy enough. The mix sounds spot on in the beginning, I'd say maybe a bit less so in the drop but it's not bad by any means, just sounds a bit less controlled during the drop. Not sure how to help you there though, maybe reduce the growls by a db or two or compress? I thought the buildup was pretty good, could just use some automation and/or fade in on the kicks. Cool ideas though, man! I love the break and little fill right before the drop.

R&A Graveyard / Re: A section for remix competitions and opportunities

i think it's a great idea. it's not like you're redirecting them into the hands of a competing forum, likely any remix contests will be over splice/wavo/etc and they'll come back here to post their new fresh remix in the WIP section  ;)

« on: January 08, 2016, 04:23:11 pm »
probably not that secret but tiny bit of reverb ( <10% dry/wet usually) + OTT compressor does the trick for getting sounds big but not pushing them far back in the mix

Sound Design / Re: 808 Techniques
« on: January 08, 2016, 04:19:35 pm »
one huge thing for me recently was bouncing stuff down to audio. I used to duplicate the 808 patch, change the release, make automations, etc. and it was all a mess and got super inefficient. luckily ableton makes it easy to resample or freeze/flatten tracks so what I do now is write all the bass lines in midi, then when im done, ill duplicate, turn off the midi track (or delete it and save as a new project file), freeze/flatten the track and then chop and fade audio where need be. I find it's much easier to manipulate audio and have that visual reference of the audio track.
