Percussion definitely balances nicely and I think it is wide enough -- that said maybe make the clap wider but only slightly. Agree that there is some dullness up top for what ever reason; try and bring out some of the higher frequencies.

Really like what you are doing with some of the vocals btw.

thanks for the feedback Mifzan.
the intense limiting is most certainly intentional. I wanted something that felt like an equal-level barrage.
That said I might feel different about it when I mix it down in the future.

Also thanks Juno. That is a good point about the beginning that I have considered however I think its part of how the track works for me. Start maxed out and get acclimatised to that until its the new normal. That said I also might feel differently about that in the future.

Composition/Arrangement/Theory / Re: Drum Pattern Techniques
« on: January 12, 2016, 06:59:53 pm »
A benefit of having drums in a drum rack (ableton for my example) and then going to the piano roll is that you can apply interesting LFO shit to different drums.

I will go to drum, open its Simpler, change it to Sampler if I want to do something more complex, then I will add an LFO, turn off retrigger and set different LFOs on different hits to different speeds. Then I use this LFO to automate parameters, pan, filters etc.

This can add a lot of life to your patterns. Hope that was clear

Ok this is fucking unreal. Lets see if I can think of anything useful....

In the melody in the start at around 40 seconds it feels like one or two notes might be too hot and loud but that could be my headphones at the moment.

Love the space between beats around 1 minute mark.

Whole track is great. Your filter automation is particular on some of those synths is really tight.

oh this is a fantastic resource.

Another good idea is to check out Sadowick's Massive tutorial series. Yes its for the NI Massive synth but you will learn a lot of stuff that is useful across the board.

kick is sounding good to me at the start but the clap is a bit weak. the synths sound good as well but would really be brought out by some panning automation. I’m enjoyed the building at 1:30.

In general the rhythms here are great. I would like some of the other elements to gel better though. For example the synth that comes in at around 1:05 doesn’t gel well enough for me at 2:45 but that could be just taste.

all said I enjoyed it

Anyways, while quarter tones are really interesting, they're almost unnoticeable to people who were not raised listening to them. That's the main reason that they're not used as much.

I dont agree with this because normally when someone is using quarter tones or different intonations they are creating a whole different scale with different relations between the notes and sets completely different moods. An example of this would be The Cactus Rosary by Terry Riley(cant find a full youtube link of the studio recording but check spotify maybe). It has a completely retuned scale and the intervals between notes create completely different effects.

One way to get around the piano roll not allowing alternate tunings is to try out a program called Scala which allows you to remap your midi to playing different scales (as in not just 0.5+ on everything but completely remapped) Hope this helps

All of these sounds are royalty free to use in your own commercial productions.

so i download the basement freak funk legends pack and I noticed you had samples and riffs from well known players such as Miles Davis. Just wondering how are these royalty free?

thanks anyway for the samples, they do sound good

hey man, thanks for the listen. 4:43 is the same synth patch as used at the very very start. its made in Massive.  I forget some of the exact details of it but a lot of patches like that that I make have LFOs all over the place and they are also multiplying the rates and amp of each other so there is a lot of strange movement.

Havn't heard of Absynth, is it worth checking out?
