Mixing/Mastering / Acoustic Treatment
« on: January 19, 2016, 03:28:59 pm »
Hi folks,

I am going to buy studio monitors very soon. Now I want to make some acoustic changes to my room as well. But my room pretty much really sucks for acoustic treatment I think, but maybe some of you could help me out..

This is my room:

Yellow: Windows
Red: Door
Blue wall: From ground to 0,50m is straight, after that it´s slanting.

Empty:

Full:

I suggest reading this blog post: http://edmprod.com/ultimate-melody-guide/ (The Ultimate Guide to Writing Better and More Memorable Melodies)

What do you think of the kicks in this free sample pack? http://hyperbitsmusic.com/samplepack/

21
Yeah true. But I really only work on making tracks. You suggest spending less time on making tracks and do more of the stuff you mentioned?

22
Thanks man! I really think this can be very very beneficial for people who have got the time to follow this.

I would suggest learning the basics of synthesis (http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/allsynthsecrets.htm try to read at least untill part 10)

When you know the what every button does. You can make any sound in any synth. So after you got that, you can look for presets you really like in other synths you own, and recreate them in V-Station. Every synth basically (there are exceptions!) has the same buttons / parameters, they're just in a different lay out with sometimes different names. When you know the basics of synthesis you can just read the manual of the synth you want to use and you'll know what to do ;)

Please post multiple examples. We can't help you this way.

25
Maybe the kicks you want to recreate are analog? Can you post an example?

26
Well, if you really tried many different samples already, I think your problem is in the mixdown. Do you sidechain everything?

I just installed it and I shall see what it will bring. Heard some great stories and I love how you can hide the automation which is the factor I want to switch from fruityloops

Well I just layer it like anything else. Maybe eq a little bit to give every layer each own space but I always use a 6 or 12 dB slope, never higher because than the layers won't glue together.

Thanks man!

Thanks for the shout haha!

I really like your kick man, this would be a very cool reverse bass kick (if that's what you go for, try sidechaining the bass or adjusting the attack). I would suggest working on your punch because it lacks that smashin power you know?

I am not sure if you've also watched this video, but this is a 2 hour long video by Frontliner himself explaining the creation of a hardstyle kick: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMt8U77GMKk

Oh and this isn't specifically about kicks, but this is a 1,5 hour long video where Noisecontrollers breaksdown multiple tracks including Solar & Down down, and also showing the channel strip of a kick he made (sounds like the inQontrol kick). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiqiXWr906c
