So I started a project that I felt pretty strong about, started the introduction, and now that's started I have no clue where to go with it. What do you guys do when you just get stuck? I mean I literally have about 20 seconds of a song that I absolutely love, but have no idea where to go with it at this point.
Instead of just listening to what others do, start analyzing what others do. Go find ten Future Bass tracks that you really like, and bring them into your DAW one at a time. Deconstruct them - use markers to divide up the arrangement so you can see when they transition between each section; use blank MIDI clips to mark off what sounds are being used, when they come in, and when they stop; try to recreate their chord progressions and melodies; all in all, just do what you can to learn directly from the source material instead of trying to use your memory of the genre.
Here's one.
And another.
Tbf I think you can easily learn how to dj fair quickly . I mean simple djing including simple transitions . Maybe start with a console ? That's pretty the same as players and it's not as expensive lol .
The piano at the beginning isn't bad, but it seems over-processed and not super "real" you know?
The mixing/mastering on the percussion is solid. I really liked the initial drop into the bass too, it was sudden and had a good vibe to it.
I liked what was initially going on at 1:08, but when the noise cut out it sounded a bit empty. I think maybe some pluck synths would work well there, or perhaps some vocal chops.
At 1:31 there's a lot going on. I like the sidechain work, but there's too much for me to focus on and everything becomes a bit jumbled.
Really like the percussion work throughout, it all sounded solid and sat great in the mix. The high lead was good too, and wasn't repetitive. The track runs together so quickly and doesn't give the listener much time to breathe and process what's going on however. I would like this track at like a festival or something, but sitting down to listen to it in my spare time would almost make me stressed out in a strange way.
Good job though, it sounds professional and thought out.
