Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: How do you get your own style?
« on: January 07, 2016, 10:20:45 pm »
Well if you're anything like mat zo, renard, or any other multi-genre producer, maybe you'll never find one and you'll continue to make whatever you feel like making all the time and no one will have a problem with it. I don't think I have one, and I still just make whatever. I'm happy with that. The only problem is it makes deciding what to put on a release pretty hard, but that's just me.

for all the hunnies and phat drops of course

I love any and every form of art, you name it. Music production, composition, and performance just happen to be my favorite. I don't think I'll be more passionate about anything else ever.

Using FM8, but NOT for growl bass sounds :P
FM Synths are seriously underrated for things other than wobbles, growls, and bass house synths.

WIPs / Fff - Stripes [Open Collab/Remix?]
« on: January 07, 2016, 09:27:16 pm »
I started this track and I feel it has some potential but I'm at a loss with where to go from here. The chorus/drop/whatever is not serious, I just threw it in. If you feel the same way as me feel free to download the stems/midi and do whatever you feel like. Remix it, sample it, send to me to add some more, whatever you want really.

Or some feedback/criticism on what you think I can do with the track would be nice too. You don't have to waste your bandwidth and time on downloading and contributing to this crap if you don't want to.

also, the title is just placeholder for the moment, but if you like it then whatever. I'm drunk so i guess it's cool.

On the other end of the Electric Piano spectrum...

Could someone point me in the direction of the best Wurlitzer emulator/vst?

edit: nevermind lounge lizard is pretty dope for wurly stuff, i knew that already.

I think learning the drums helped with my productions immensely. Going from teaching myself the basics with the game Rock Band to playing intense funk tunes and led zeppelin after a few months of weekly lessons really, really helped. Learning to read sheet music (although sheet music with drums is very simple), understanding timing, rhythms, rudiments and all that good stuff definitely changed the way I think and hear music altogether. I can play a handful of more instruments but I'm really a drummer at heart.

Playing in bands helped a lot too. In my opinion getting other peoples perspectives and experience of music through jamming, experimenting, or writing in real life will surpass collaborating over the internet any day. If you get the chance, meet up with some other artists and write something together.

TyrellN6, amazing softsynth based off of the Juno 60
Yup. Doesnť seems like it, but it's pretty decent emulation. Old good Synth 1 as well.

My secret weapon... Hmmm. Probably LFOTool's flanging filters. :-X

I'm definitely picking up LFOTool and Cthulhu next paycheck. Steve Duda is my hero.

Check out this beast by Output called Signal. My new fav synth!

I just picked up Exhale from output and Signal is definitely next on my list (along with NI's Prism, and Monark)

My top 3 secret weapons at the moment are Synth1, ableton's Operator, and Sampler.

Sampler is pretty much my best friend.
these all are pretty much universial tools . i was meaning something you had too dig deep or found by watching a video with a wizard in the studio.  :P

You're right.  ::) Those are probably just my most used.

Secret weapons then:
The Mangle, a really fantastic granular synth.
Crystal, subtractive + FM
TyrellN6, amazing softsynth based off of the Juno 60
I use one of these in probably 80% of my tracks.
