Hey guys just want to get a thread going to condense motivational aspects of music into one word. I think this would help a lot of other producers understand different production perspectives and to mentally point out "key terminology" as we go along the musical process.

So without further todo, here are the rules:
1. If you had to describe music production (and all it consists of) with one word, what would it be?
2. Please elaborate on why you chose that word.

I'll go first!

Quantity
If I had to give one word that I believe is the best advice for music production it would have to be Quantity. Every day I hit obstacles that limit my production and creative process and every day I tell myself I don't know how to make it any better... yet. Understanding that even though I can't produce the sound and quality I imagine in my head right now, time and work will eventually pave the way. As long as I don't quit and continue to create more and more, my quality will increase, as well as my creative flow. Although quality is possibly the most important part of any song, you can't achieve quality unless you do the work to get there. "Find quality through quantity".

I'm just that guy that loves sound. Message me if you also love sound.

Vision.

If you have at least a loose idea of what you're doing, its harder to get sidetracked. If you know what a track is missing, you can learn how to give it that. If you have something driving a track other than just wanting to release something, it'll stand out.

I learned a lot from starting with no music, just a concept, and making it happen. Remixes are great for this.

Syllabus.

Mainly because "Game Plan" is two words. To kinda expand on what Wontalla said, it's helpful to have a written plan of your goals and what you want to accomplish - you aren't stuck wondering what to learn or what to do, it's all set out for you. Try and think about what the best order would be to learn the things you want to learn and write it out somewhere you can visually reference. Apply that to your projects, too: write out various song ideas before you open your DAW to produce, so you can reference the idea whenever you get stuck.

I like how yours and Wontalla are similar. I definitely agree that organization and planning go a long way in music progression! It really allows you to move forward and actively apply what you learn into something new. Awesome choice!

Persistance.

I know that we have all had our ups and downs while producing new music. The most important thing above all else is to be persistent in your creative endeavors. If you constantly strive to create new and better things, you will. The moment you tell yourself "I can't do any better than this" is the moment you've lost. As long as we persist, the ideas will keep flowing.

I love that! It kind of goes along with my word, Quantity. As long as you keep pushing forward, tackling each obstacle one by one, you'll eventually grow and allow your creativity to bloom further than it ever has before.

Inspiration.

Most days I have to create my inspiration, or go do other stuff that inspires me to lock myself up in the studio. But even a cool sample or sound you made can be inspiration, and pave the way for an entire track. At least for me it's really important, and nothing gets done if I'm not inspired
~And so he took his pain & turned it into something beautiful. Something that people could connect to.

Expression.

Any Art should be an expression of oneself. It is the process of creating something unique and putting it out there in the world to be loved or hated. There are fake artists but true art is always an expression of yourself to the world.

Passion.

You have to have passion in order for production to be rewarding. If it's not fun to you or you're doing it to be famous or follow trends, it shows imo.

I strongly believe that music should relate to people, change them, influence them. For that, you need something to say through your music. Feeling to hand over, idea to give, thought to tell or vision to show. You might have a cleanest sound possible, biggest supersaw possible or heaviest drop in the known universe, but without something to tell, it's all just random notes/samples.
"Earth is round right? Look at it from right angle and you'll be always on top of the world."
...but don't overdo it, because that's called being a d***k.
