When I start mixing, I pull all faders down and bring them up while using pink noise. It helps me a lot, although it's just a starting point, I tweak the faders later.

I notice I can mix faster thanks to this technique.

I did this today and it worked to give me a nice baseline to start with. I recommend.

I don't like the method because it can't account for the fact that you want some elements in the mix to be louder/in the front and others to be quieter/in the back.

I think it might be more useful for mixing stems than for mixing individual tracks/elements.

I compensate this by leaving individual tracks loader or turning them down.

woah this is super interesting. I always have a difficult time gettin my bass to sit properly because of the acoustics of the room I mix in. Definitely going to try this on my next mixdown

I think it might be more useful for mixing stems than for mixing individual tracks/elements.

For precisely this reason, it's not a mixing technique you'll want to rely on. It is, however, a really good way of understanding how loud and upfront each part of the spectrum can be!

It still works well for getting the balance right between the bass, mids, and treble, but much like the EQ charts, use it as a rough guide only.
Build it, and they will come.

Just tried this out and it's my new favorite way to start mixdowns. Obviously needs tweaking after but gives a very solid foundation

Thanks for this, found it really useful. Great to use as a rough guide, for sure.

Ideal, thanks friend. I figured you could probably download a sample of it, but the idea of 'buying pink noise' amused me because I am childish

I've tried this method before but it never seems to work properly for me. The levels are always way off for me so I never use this method.
still calibrating & still figuring things out ٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و

I tried this method and I absolutely love it. I took it one step further and got even better results by using this pink noise sample that I EQ'd to account for Fletcher-Munson curves.

You'll notice that the spectrum of this pink noise represents the standard spectrum (of popular House tracks in this case) much more accurately than regular pink noise. This is still only to be used as a starting point and won't guarantee you a good mix down but it can definitely help you get close to a more professional mix!
