Looking to switch to a new DAW from Logic
« on: January 09, 2016, 12:54:02 pm »
Hey Folks,

I'm looking to switch to a new DAW from Logic. It's severed me well over the last 5 years but lately there are so many GUI performance bugs with El Capitan & Yosemite its driving me up the wall, and apple don't seem to be doing anything about it so I've had enough.

Currently running dual boot on a Hackintosh so have access to either Windows or Mac.

FL is super cool. And the small plugins that were unreadable can now be made bigger. The interface is super friendly and every stock plugin usefull. It's a real game changer to me.

I've bought it for 2 years now and the new FL 12 is just crazy. It innovate in many ways. Also, It's a big change from Logic. Piano roll is crazy, Pattern makes everything easier.

As a big fan, It's not the best but I over like it. Although if you're on mac, you'll need a windows thing to make it work. The alpha is improving every update but still unstable.

I'd say simply go through the same process you went through to decide Logic in the first place; try demos and see which you like most :)

Ableton is so awesome. At least get the 30 day trial, see what you think.

Give it a try of the main DAWs in the market man, was what I did when I moved from FL Studio to Ableton, and don't forget to take a look at Bitwig, that DAW is awesome too.

You should try Bitwig, me and some great producers like Deadmau5 or Nigel Good use it (not as their main DAW though).

Don't forget about the "master mind" Rafael Frost using this DAW as well.   ;D

YES YES YES to Bitwig! Try out the Bitwig demo and see for yourself.

I just switched from Logic myself.. I mean I still have Logic around for features that Bitwig doesn't have (quick swipe comping, Flex Pitch, articulation switching with Scripter, Movie import) but in the past month, I have not touched Logic at all, and I don't miss it.

FL Studio 12 is worth giving it a shot. It is a little unconventional, but once you click with its own workflow, usually there's no looking back. It is so good.

I've been using FL for years and it's never let me down before. I'd encourage you to try out the demo and see if you like it :)

Personally I absolutely love Ableton Live 9. It can be a bit tricky to get started with but after a month it's a peice of cake and it was the best switch I ever made (I used to be an FL user)! Great workflow, audio effects, automation. All you need to complete it is your samples and your favourite VST plugins and you're good to go!
