Hey Folks,

I'm looking to switch to a new DAW from Logic. It's severed me well over the last 5 years but lately there are so many GUI performance bugs with El Capitan & Yosemite its driving me up the wall, and apple don't seem to be doing anything about it so I've had enough.

Currently running dual boot on a Hackintosh so have access to either Windows or Mac.

Are you using Logic 9 or Logic X ?  I had SERIOUS GUI problems in Logic 9 when attempted to move up above OS 10.6 Snow Leopard. (OS 10.7 or higher) I actually stayed back in Logic 9 and Snow Leopard for a long time because it was so bad. I finally decided to upgrade, so now I currently run Logic X in Yosemite. There are a couple little annoyances in the Channel EQ graphics and sometimes slight piano roll graphics glitches, but nothing to make me switch my DAW. I am reasonably happy with the performance. I have a Hackintosh too, but not dual boot. It's an early 2009 Mac Pro 8 core that I hacked to accept 12 cores.

I'd hate to see you switch, only to have different graphics issues in the new DAW.

Cheers,
Rob

FL Studio 12 is a great DAW. Anyone can use it. And since all DAWs do mostly the same thing, it's just learning the process by which those things are done, and Image-Line makes that very easy. The GUI is indeed very fun, and inviting. Especially if you have it set to "Entertain Me"

But yeah, switching to FL wouldn't be a bad idea at all, you can do great things with it, very easily.

I have no idea why people knock on it. It's the musician, not the DAW, that is responsible for making good music, but I digress.
Yes I'm a fukkin Pokémon fan in case you'd not gathered that.

I am going to give FL Studio serious consideration when they finally release a Beta version for Mac OS. It looks like a great DAW. The workflow looks a little strange though, but they're all different.

fl chan for life

but, don't you think the "entertain me" is a bit distracting ? especially if you wanted to work fast ? hm is it just me because i set it to the lowest "don't distract me" :/

If you're looking for something that feels more like Logic's linear workflow, I'd go with either Sonar (PC only), Presonus Studio One v3, Cubase, or potentially PT (although I don't think the new PT12 pricing is worth it).  I use Sonar (my main DAW) and PT on my PC, and Logic on my MBA, Studio One v2 on both, and I've found it very easy to switch between them.  Bitwig is great, but has quite a different workflow than Logic - not that there's anything wrong with that, of course, but it would possibly have a steeper learning curve for you compared to some of the others.
Sonar Platinum | Pro Tools 11 | Bitwig Studio | Logic Pro X
Access Virus TI2 | Kurzweil PC3X | Nord Lead 4 | NI Maschine 2

Nah.... I'm coming from a Logic background and I took about 2 hours to learn how Bitwig is set up. It is super intuitive and you really don't even need the manual to learn it. You might have to spend a little more time getting into the Clip Launcher view stuff but seriously it's not a big deal. The Bitwig learning curve is not steep at all. The Arrange mode is just like Logic's Arrange mode, nothing different at all.

If you are coming from Logic, you will instantly notice how much better Bitwig's Browser is too. Needs a few minor tweaks such as customization but other than that, it works very well.

Also, something more about FL, is that it comes with his own ASIO version. Which helps anyone who doesn't have good driver for producing.

Check out Bitwig. Several of the top producers have endorsed it, like Deadmau5, Rob Swire, Feed Me and Dada Life.

Actually, I see some pics on your Twitter account showing that you use Logic X. From what I have gathered, Bitwig is the best of both world. Arrange page is just like Logic's, but yet you have the Live type workflow too.
That's very appealing.

This pretty much sums up the way I see Bitwig. I have been waiting FOREVER for Logic to implement some sort of Session view functionality but it never came and unfortunately I don't see it happening any time soon.

Would say Cubase 8 pro, it's just really good.

Logic - Tried it, good program but cannot be compared to cubase 8.
Fruityloops - Cannot get used to the layout, really confused how everything works there.
Ableton - Good program, love the workflow.
Bigwig - Haven't tried, but looks good, people say better than Ableton.

I have some friends who work for cubase and I have heard really good things for what is coming this year! :-)
