Mixing/Mastering / Re: Understanding Compression

Yap ! You can also do the total oppossite as puting slow attack and fast release to keep the transient and compress after it , you can also achieve distortion by over pushing the ration and the treshold making it crash a bit and creating a new sound !

Imma take a simple example :

You got a kick , so you got the attack of the kick wich is the TIK the decay - wich is the Tok and kinda pump feeling and the sustain- release wich is the OOMPH you got with a sub or in festival.

The compressor also has Attack release treshold ratio

The Attack is when the compressor is gonna hit the sound
The release is how long it gonna compress
the treshold is there to say how much you wanna reduce the levels
and the ratio is how much it will reduce when the kick hit the treshold 2-4-10 generally

Personnaly I use compression a lot with drum loops and synth with too much attack

So you got your drop loops , Kick hi hat snare Kick hi hat snare etc

You found that the Kick and the hi hat are good but the snare hit too much
Here you compress it you set your attack really fast because you want the Tik of the snare to reduce but the other thing to keep originally where they was you put the release fast as well as you don't want to affect the other drums
and i usually have a ratio between 2 and 10 , the treshold is for you to set !

It's good to compress group with some Glue compressor like the SSL comp or The glue , as it "Glue" thing together it help have same kind of levels between your thing.

For the master try compressing a bit but not too much overcompressing will flatter your sound and it will sound shit
Otherwise it's for you to try and understand what you can do with it , and remember every compressor is different in a way but work in the same manner

Sorry for the long writing , hope i helped you.

love.

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Stereo Width

Everything as to be mono under 150hz for sure , for a good stereo imaging try working with the Mid/Side eq it helps a lot , as well when you pan thing you let the center breath a bit wich can help , but don't forget than clubs are in mono so if you track don't sound (not exactly but the closer the better) the same it will not sound as you like.

After that you can work with the S1 by waves wich enhance the stereo image and the Izotope imager wich is a multiband imager wich is pretty decent !

Try also avoiding widdening too much it can kill a mix !

Hey

Look at the high end there's TOO MUCH of it , as well try not layering sounds too much as it get really messy sometimes , as well when the drop comes it feel over compressed and not as loud as the break was , try putting down the volume by a couple of db's in the break and working on the drop mix !

Hey !

-The Piano is damn fantastic
- I'll try another lead sound , I'm not a huge fan of this kinda 8 bit thing
-The kick is too loud in my opinion
- Try working the Bass area 60 - 350 especially as I feel like between 150 and maybe 300hz it sounds a bit empty !

Otherwise great production in overall melody is interesting !

You definitly need to rework and Kick and beside 300Hz also you could have more "Air" in the drop synth try adding some high end reverb , otherwise trap is really my style but I kinda like this one ! The sound design is on point congrats

« on: January 06, 2016, 02:17:34 am »
not my kind of style but you first have some levels problem , one sound is really low the other is really LOUD so you need to fix levels , try also achieving some compression for the all thing to get together as the glue or the SSL , as wall try working on the Boomy bass sound , it kill all your spectrum as it's cut other frequency because it's too loud in my opinion !

Might need some more "Air" you know ? Try puting some top reverb on your high end it will sound fuller and richer without affecting the spectrum as a high boost could do !
