4. Use surgical EQ to remove noise, other artifacts
probably a really stupid question, but what exactly is surgical EQ'ing?

When you cut like 2Dbs on the 175 180 plague frequency add 1Db on the 345 freq eq , it's called surgical because it's really tiny thing that get eq'd :)

Do: Use your ears.
Don't: Swear by spectrum analyzers and visual references.

Great one !

Try fuckin up with the eq completely then compress then re eq the reverb the Distort it the recompress it then re eq it then limit it and it should do the trick , did that some times ago

So is there a particular kind of distortion that is better than another? If I just crank up the channel mixer, it seems like it'll be a lot different that if I use Saturn to beef the sound up until it touches the red.

There's no better things when It comes to particular idea

Clipping is absolutely a great way to fatten up individual channels, what you should never do is clip the master. Other than that clipping is a great tool

Why not clipping the master ? I've seen some descent Mastering engineer getting a little bit of soft clipping (T racks one for example) on their master to get some more warmth  ???

Lin Band Eq for under 25 cut then Tape machine for the warm some Psp Vintage for the warm aswell SSL comp for the glue/comp thing another more surgical eq Mid/side to get unwanted frequency away then First limiter to get a bit of levels and A.O.M Invsible limiter to loud the thing up :)

The interface is great whatever but in my opinion it will never sound how I like when i do it , so when i do a kick I'm kinda never satisfied so I prefer sampling , it's different for everyone :)

Using it for mastering or groups but not for every channel it can really mess up your sound add unwanted artifact and fucked up your mix really quickly

I've tried a lot this Kick thing but I don't really like it , what you can do if you're like me bad at making kick and drum sample, just sample one for your favorite song , I usually sample a Kick from a song I like ending up editing it a bit and there you have a really great kick without torturing yourself :)

By mind you can achieve it by taking a saw wave put some attack on , some glide on , some really fast reverb on and pitch the begining of the igh pass cut off on everynote , it will do the trick as well there some tremolo vibrato kind of thing wich you could do by putting an lfo wich trigger after a certains milisecond

Yoooooooo,

Remember that mix , most of all is about volume , don't try to over do it compress everything etc , it's kinda over rated , try to adjust volume first and when you'll be happy with the volume you'll see a HUGE différence , then try to eq thing gently by doing substractive eq , then if you're not that happy try to compress Groups gently and it will immediatly sounds proper.

But remember one thing you can't eq a sound wich is already bad from the begining , you can't make miracle with a synth wich is already not good , try picking some other synth that will fit better etc

Try also working with reverb etc to get space and depth in your mix but don't over do it 3-4 different reverbs is enough

Hope I helped !

Do : Create 3-4 reverb and use them wisely

Don't : put different reverb on everything (like sylenth spire massive reverb etc) it will fill the spectrum too much and it can get really Muddy/messy really fast

As I'm more into sound designing things my good (and really bad Habit) is to eq compress process everything perfectly before I start even doin another thing , it's great in a way because it sound instantly proper and clean but it can be a bad habit when I'm losing the direction i was heading !

Depend on what you wanna achieve , I use ableton as well and as I said I mostly use Reverbs (Try the convolution reverb from Max for Live it's AWESOME) S1 and Izotope to get my Imaging right but do it slightly otherwise as I said it will fuck up your mix :)

Hey so I've come up for a great idea for all the producer who don't wanna read 1000 word long text, All you have to do is put one Do and one don't in your post ! (Has to be about mix and master Ofc)

Imma begin and you just have to follow !

Do : Eq everything
Dont : Compress/Overcompress everything
