Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / What song inspires you the most?
« on: January 10, 2016, 02:39:25 am »
Mine would have to be Porter Robinson's Fellow Feeling. That climax is unlike anything i've ever heard. So much passion and energy within that section. What is that song that really inspires you to the core?

Visual art, stories, video games, space, mountains (specifically the Colorado Rockies and the fact that they feel like home to me), certain parts of history, and life itself mainly - experiences. Struggle and peace in memories are two completely different aspects that I often find myself coming back to while creating.
great list of influences!

1. Running/jogging
2. Being in nature
3. Film
4. Art
5. Coffee
6. Chocolate
What kind of film? Any specific ones?

2-11-16!!!! So hyped, that Madlib beat is incredible towards the end

Seasons are big inspiration for me. I live in Minnesota and the bitter cold effects my state of mind. Which effects my music. I have this need to feel warm and make my music as warm/alive as possible.

6
It could be something as simple as certain colors, travel, or something as complex as emotions, past life experiences.

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: How do you get your own style?
« on: January 09, 2016, 12:06:44 am »
The truth is, it's impossible to just FIND your own style, you create your own style over a fairly long period of time. The more things you expose yourself to and get inspired by, the more unique and interesting your style is going to be. There's a quote I quite like that goes something like:
"Creativity is knowing how to hide your influences"
and I couldn't agree more with that sentiment. A lot of people think I make unique music, but I can almost always point out where I got the inspiration from songs.. Whether it be influenced by another artist, a genre, etc., and that's the beauty of it.
I try to listen to as much different music as possible, and on a daily basis that ranges from indie, to metal, to electronic, to jazz.. and when I sit down now I never feel like I'm making something that's already been made.

Hope this helps!
definitely helps thanks man, makes a lot of sense

Any improvements I could on the mix, and the key change was intentional, anyway I could make more smooth?

How are the drums?

Overall is it a good track?

Mine would either be, Skrillex - Cats Rats or Aphex Twin - Alberto Balsam

C418, M83, mau5, and Mat are probably the biggest ones for me, followed by Andrew Bayer, Canblaster, and Orbital.
heard there might be some new M83 this year

Porter was the first electronic musician I listened to where I realized how genuine electronic music could be, so my vote will always go to him. If it weren't for Worlds I might've stopped producing electronic music.
favorite song from worlds? mines fellow feeling

+1 to what justin said for sure.

As for artists by name, it's really hard to narrow it down to just a few, so here is a short list:
Madeon, Haywyre, Volant, Suken, Tennyson, Virtual Riot, Daft Punk, Grant Bowtie, Sakuraburst, Televisor, Sanjaux, Puppet, Lenno, and many more.
fucking love sakuraburst

That's why I love this forum, the chance to make these friendships and connections is amazing
