WIPs / Really Experimental Trap Song I'm working on (Help name it too!)
« on: January 14, 2016, 06:34:49 pm »
This is a strange song I'll be honest. It's a trap song I started working on, but I wanted it to be slightly very acoustic sounding and very atmospheric. It's not like many trap songs I hear hahaha.

Key things to note about what I'm thinking of changing:
1). Extend the drop
2). General mixing in general, a bit with the breakdown maybe
3). Better Mastering

Okay here it is:

Also if anyone has name suggestions I'll gladly take those :D

I feel like the entire track has too much high end throughout. Too many sounds have a lot of high end or depend on it. That's okay though, just maybe clean it up a bit. The Prydas Snares that happen throughout the first drop aren't very "BIG" like they are often used as. Also during the drop the vocals maybe should be a bit louder. During the bit after 1:30 they need to be louder too I feel.

Ok the last drop is totally BA wow.

I love the vocals!

Bass I think on the verses needs to be louder, maybe more bass-y? I love the toms that go on throughout as well. The Pads on the choruses needs to be fuller, but I like how '80s it actually sounds at the same time. The breakdown might need more reverb / space to compliment the "Back when I see You"'s that go on. The part around 2:52 where the final chorus comes in needs to be bigger in general.

Overall I think a loudness check and slightly better mixing / mastering will be great, but this is just a WIP. I really love this!

the drop sounds too repetitive for me, maybe you can make it a bit shorter. Like the chords in the break, but i think the bass there is a bit too loud. And also, try to make your drums mono and add more excitement in your buildup, the drop comes out of nowhere to be honest.

Yeah a lot of the song isn't as much of a drop but rather intro / outro for DJ mixing, but yeah I totally understand what you mean by repetitive haha. Also I believe the kick is mono, but I might've forgot to make the snare mono haha. Okay, the nowhere - drop makes sense, I'll work on that, thanks!

Something I think might sound neat on this would be to throw on some high-pitched, super-distorted guitar on the solo part

Wow yes really good idea, I was also thinking of throwing in some real funky - acoustic bass bits during that section, but this distorted guitar idea is fantastic thank you, now I just need to find a distorted guitar solo same haha.

Hey, this is a song I've worked on for the past two days that I'd like feedback with. It's very VERY Oliver influenced, as you can probably tell by listening haha. Anyways, I'd love any feedback you guys could offer, whether it's arrangement or mixing/mastering, ANYTHING!

Nothing is really set in stone with the song yet as it stands, so anything is subject to change if I start hating anything haha.

Thank you all

Ok these are just slight nitpicks that'll go along as I listen

At 0:15, maybe add some sort of "impact" after that quick white noise riser, then maybe more reverb with the section afterwards, or at least make the entire section just seem "larger" and "louder" up until 0:45. Then for this bit up until the drop, make it grow even more possibly, because the drop is VERY loud compared to the rest of the song.

I love the drop melody, at 1:30, this section needs something new, maybe hi-hat shuffle? Then some rising affect to lead into the next breakdown.

The same things I said with before can be applied to the second half of the song haha. Drop is very loud (as it should be) but maybe a bit too much compared to the other sections? Idk, these are only nitpicks haha, but I love the melody you've got going on.

When the high hats and other percussion come in around around 0:46, try adding some pad affect or more atmosphere, using the same chords that are already being played. Then, right when the song ends add some sort of 8-bit / 16-bit / Videogame sounding synth with a new melody, AND if you're feeling cheeky, at this point change the chords slightly to give it variation with the new melody, but keep the same instrumentation.

I really like this though and I really wanna see where this leads as well  ;D

I really like the 303 right off the bat. I also love the breakdown melody that follows into the next part. Maybe lengthen the breakdown though? It feels slightly too short, maybe just 8 or 16 bars more? I'm not entirely sure how it would sound. Otherwise fantastic song really enjoyed it.
