WIPs / Re: Hatsune Miku (future bass remix thing)
« on: April 02, 2016, 01:03:37 pm »
yo, good job on the vocaloid, the singing fits well with the instrumental which is also pretty neat!

The main criticism I can think of is arrangement related and is that imo the chorus/drop could hit a little harder so there is more of a payoff after the build, you could make the build quieter or the drop louder; for the latter a louder bass/ larger chords/some more layers on the percussion could help with this.

thats the only thing that really stood out, sweet track!

Hey, this is a nice little beat! The saw is a little bit piercing but not too bad; if you feel like it's a problem you could try cutting different frequencies w/ an eq and see what sounds best.
Another thing that might help is having the lead play more than one note: as a continous drone is often harder to listen to than that is changing, you could do this playing a melody, detuning the saw slightly or perhaps by messing with some chorus.

Composition/Arrangement/Theory / Re: How to construct a track

Hey, this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vjs0IOvknaQ is a video showing how JNTHN STEIN makes a track, although it is, in part, an advert for a midi controller I think it's still a really useful watch if you're interested in track construction!

I've been trying to figure out a section from Lido's Drowning remix, it's at about 1:34,  the duuh - duuh - duh! bit, I can't tell whether the chords are played by a single supersaw synth patch or several. The bass seems like a saw (w/ a sine sub), I believe the mid chords are also a saw and there is definitely a supersaw at the higher end. Any thoughts would be appreciated:

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: FL ON MAC
« on: January 09, 2016, 01:26:54 pm »
A native version of FL is currently in development for mac. Its in it's Alpha phase. Looks very promising, no more crossover/wine ports!

It's actually in beta now, although at the moment it probably runs smoother with 3rd party programs/bootcamp

Yeah, I was curious to see how well it would run so I installed the crossover wrapped version for OS X: bearing in mind I have an older macbook, it didn't run all that well, however, I tried running on a windows virtual machine (With Parallels http://www.parallels.com/uk/ ) and it seemed to work better.

How do you make the bass that starts at 0:43 in this live edit of Fresh Static Snow? I've tried multiple times to create it on my own with various plugins but I can't seem to get the sound just right. Here is a link to what I'm talking about:

Thanks everyone!

Here is a massive patch that sounds pretty similar to the bass I think your talking about, it's from a tutorial I can't seem to find on youtube anymore, sorry if you don't use massive but I hope it helps anyhow!

I have been playing piano for most of my life and plan to continue for the rest of it!

I don't think it has helped with production but has been instrumental \(^ω^\) └( ^ω^ )」 ( ノ^ω^)ノ゚  in developing a deeper interest in composition and theory which has led to the discovery of so much great music and interesting techniques.

Composition/Arrangement/Theory / Re: Build Ups
« on: January 07, 2016, 01:55:10 am »
I find certain chord progressions can give a building feeling, some of my favs are: IV - V - VI - V (In a minor scale, e.g. C min, F - G - Ab - G)
- VI - VII - I (c (melodic) minor again e.g. Ab - Bb - C - Bb )
- Repetitions of chord V or IV can be good for building tension if the section after the build starts with chord I
there are tons more combinations of chords but these are the first that come to mind, hope it helps!
