Not a fan of the main pluck melody, I find it very cheesy

andrew bayer, matt lange, jon hopkins are some of my favorite electronic producers. from a strictly technical standpoint, Noisia always blows me away.

another lesser known artist that's coming to mind is Nhato, who makes some of the craziest electro-trance i've ever heard. endlessly impressive productions coming from him

I agree that Nhato is incredibly skilled and not as well known. I remember the first time I heard 4:16 of this remix it mind f***** me so hard I had to go back and listen to it again and again.

That's because you haven't heard his. Nhato is a fucking beast and he deserves way more recognition than he gets tbh

Sound Design / Re: Stacked Chords Dillon Francis Sylenth?

Im not an expert in sound design but they don't seem to be very difficult to imitate tbh lol just detuned saws with distorsion. I think it's all about layering and sidechain

WIPs / Re: Chorus/"Drop" sounding weak/odd on some of my tracks!?

Don't ever automate the master volume fader, and don't ever touch it either.

The issue with your first track is that your bassline is overtaking the other instruments in the background. Your low and mid-lows are muddy, and they are overshadowing a lot of the mix.

Your second track's kick and bassline have a hard time distinguishing from themselves. Either increase the volume difference substantially, change the tone of the kick, or sidechain. I would also recommend more dynamic contrast with the sections--too much bass in the pre-chorus and chorus will make the chorus seem anti-climactic, for example.
I agree with this but if it doesnt work you can automate the master volume as well xD there's nothing wrong with this. Try to play with high pass filters, and also leave empty space before the drop, Porter does this a lot and it works pretty well

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Mono kick?
« on: January 12, 2016, 07:21:17 pm »
I recommend you to keep sub and kick in mono. Don't think it would work on a 'normal' snare tbh it'd lose the punch

R&A Graveyard / Re: Different sub forums for DAWs?

I probably would be against this idea. There's a ton of DAWs so you would have quite a few subforums. So this idea would probably just make things more confusing if anything.

Writing an EP based on one concept is definitely my goal for this year.

Why don't you just sample those kicks you wanna imitate and then layer them with something else? lol

I agree with all said above, and I wanted to add that the intro with just the vocal sounds empty, you should add some FX (distorsion, reverb, delay etc) to make it interesting.
