It`s a pretty basic one - iii-IV-V-vi in major, v-VI-VII-i in minor
BUT it`s the most uplifting one and it really resonates with me, and Madeon`s crazy sound design complements it perfectly, so it`s also my favourite song with this chord progression

Sound Design / A different approach to a simple saw

Hey, it`s Matt Viper!
I`ve been making distorted saw basses today and one moment I tried something I`ve never done before - playing on the lowest notes. As you know, it should be useless because it`s too low, BUT try clipping distortion on those slow oscillations and you`re ought to have a pretty interesting result.
Anyway, here it is: Second part is without drums, third is weird because there is an arpeggiator going on range spanning 6 octaves (who does that, lol) then it`s played normally on some notes in a similar to old madeon encore fashion, so you can see it`s just a distorted saw, without fx it`s just 3 saws, lol.
Tell me, have you done some weird things and got some cool results and wish to share the techniques?

Less detuned oscilattors have less stereo, higher octaves have more detune and are full stereo, you can try make them more side using MSED or Pro-Q2
Multiband distortion
Hi-pass at 150-250 Hz, you don`t need that
you need a sub bass and a nice gritty mid bass
Layer various synths
OTT
I remember Audien saying he uses sth like Waves GTR Maserati? to make them sound more agressive

Here is the composition on piano and rhodes of the song I wrote today. I begin the process of producing only when I have the arrangement ready. So, yeah, does it have any potential? It`s supposed to be the ending song of the album I would make someday, so listen to it with this context in mind :)

I know I know, another Madeon thread but when I can`t make a song I simply try to remake something of his, it`s a nice training.
So, today I`ve taken a shot at The City.
I remember producers on FL Studio forum had created The Night Out remake one time. Maybe we could work on some Madeon songs together?

Absolutely! And it`s really easy on cpu.
But! Serum can do it all and more! So if cpu is not the problem I`d go for Serum, because eventually you will want something like massive/serum.
Okay, so your classic subtractive synthesis is covered. Then you may want to dive into some FM Synthesis and for this I recommend FM8 and Sytrus.

150 Hz is my must have fundamental, my secret is FL Studio`s Snare Basic.wav because my goal is to have Madeon-like snares and it`s actually made by him.
Some noisy sample, Snare Basic.wav is fine haha, I use transient shaper to give it more sustain
A smacky, snappy snare for the attack part.

Actually there wasn`t a separate layer for the melody, it`s played by the same synths along with chords.
I used Harmor for a squaresaw patch making use of Pluck and Harmonizer and Sylenth1 for some squares with decaying lowpass and cool vibrato that doesn`t come up immediately.
These two patches are then cloned. Copies are fastly arpeggiated. Sylenth1 with built-in arp and Harmor with FL Studio Arpeggiator.
When I worked it some more I`ve made some lead layers but they are not in the example I uploaded.

- Use all chords possible!
- Have you heard of hooktheory? In theorytab section you can analyze your fav songs if they are there
- What I like to do in FL Studio is to write in piano roll all the chords I`d like to use and use playback instead of write to play them in various progressions and see which one I like the best

I remade it, well this is how it sounds with the Imperium Bass i`d made earlier it`s a similar sound. It should decay longer
Notes may be off because I decided to have a little more fun with it

I know the quality isn`t the best but I fell in love with it, and it`s probably not gonna be released.
I had no idea on how to recreate it so I`ve made my own version based on it

So I`m thinking, maybe you`ll have better luck recreating it and if you could figure out the chords, like there are two? I dunno I made them using my fav chord progression.
