Mixing/Mastering / Re: Is mastering always neccesary?
« on: January 07, 2016, 11:02:54 am »
My mastering method:  1. Put a SSL Bus compressor in the first slot (like you're supposed to do). 2. Put a real musical sounding analog EQ in slot 2 and crank up the highs (To get that extra sheen). 3. Put a multi-band compressor to control the highs a bit. 4. Put a limiter in the final slot and crank it up, pause to rest my ears, and to assess the results so far (like a real pro). 5. Send the track to a real mastering engineer.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the response.  It's pretty much what In have heard in the past. A lot of people have A Virus Ti, but they are mixed in their opinions of them. They run the gamut from "paper weight" to "need to use it more" to "bad DAW sync issues". I'll think I'll stick with my soft synths for now. I trust the opinion of this forum.
Thanks for clearing things up.

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Do All the Top Producers Have a Virus?
« on: January 06, 2016, 12:00:10 pm »
Do all the worlds top producers have an Access Virus?  I don't have one, but I think I'll be getting one soon. Anybody here have one?

I really love the "big" sound of this track. I am not much of an expert on electro house, so take that into consideration. I think you have a really really good beat here! Especially the intro. When the chords are introduced, I feel like the bass is masking them a little bit. Also, I would like to hear the chords ring out just a little more. Maybe a little longer decay or longer release so the actual note is a bit more pronounced. All in all I think you did a great job!

Cheers,
Rob

Finished Tracks / Some College - Vertigo (Original mix)

This is a track that I finished earlier this year. I just wanted to introduce myself to the forum. Also, I would love to hear your comments. It's Progressive Trance.

Love this forum already! It's first class!

Thanks,

Rob

I agree, with the other posts. It takes time. The more experience you get, the more things you'll hear that you never noticed before.  :)
