WIPs / Re: Currently working on track that has that Porter x Illenium vibe
« on: February 07, 2017, 04:00:23 pm »
so far so good. I'll focus on the main drop here.

The lead sounds good, but atm it sounds pretty empty. If you listen to Porter Robinson's "Divinity", imo, it has that big, epic vibe to it because of the big saw chords that back the lead, and white noise and crashes to fill up the highs and give it more energy. Just make sure you EQ everything correctly so everything pops out the way it should.

this is really good man. The only things i think you should tweak is to let the riser and the white noise in the intro end around 0:30 or 0:31 so the vocal can stand on it's own right before the bassline hits around 1:00. Also...the build up before the drop seemed a bit too quiet and it didn't sound like there was a lot going on. I wasn't sure if that was done intentionally or if you're still working on that.

This isn't super necessary to do, but maybe introduce the piano chords around 2:02 but low pass it and slowly open the filter so the listener knows it's coming at 2:24. Just a thought =)

Other than that, great ideas here! Keep it up.

the first drop sounds awesome! 2:14 sounds a bit weak though.

there's way too much going on in the drop. However, I do like that synth that's playing the melody, and what you have starting from 0:48 sounds interesting. Simplify the drop a bit with a catchier melody and you'll have something good!

Hey guys! I've been working on this remix for a while now and I'd appreciate any feedback concerning mixdown, composition, or whatever you feel would make the track sound bigger / better. Hope you like it! Thanks!

The only negative thing i have to say about this this track is the lead sounds a bit too thin. Maybe add another layer or two to beef it up a bit? Other than that, I like this! Hope you finish this!

I like the rising pad that starts i think around 0:50. Adds some nice atmosphere to the track. The start of the break is also really cool too. I'd add some percussion to add some groove and movement to the track. Maybe also add some delay to the plucks to make it sound less "2D". Hope you finish this!

Cool tune! Shot you a follow on SC. =)

So I thought everything up until the drop/chorus sounded cool. The little glitch effects you did during the drop were interesting, but I feel there should be some more varied progressions in between when the bass comes back in (or out).

Also, I'm not exactly sure what was happening starting at 3:30. I was feeling some kind of groove when the snare came in, but other than that it feels a bit out of place.

Everything sounds super crunchy and the kick sounds like it's punches through nicely. It would have been really cool if the vocal was sent through a vocoder or something to give the break a bit more character.

really cool idea. I think the one thing that really stands out to me is the bassline. Don't think I've heard that sounds before. lol

I think the saw chords around 3:30 can sound a bit bigger and the bass can take a step back a bit to let the melody stand out more.

The breakdown reminded me of Bluestone's "Sinai" for some reason. Maybe it's the vocal FX and stuff =)

I've had this problem for a while too. I use Ableton, so recently I've been just freezing > flattening tracks to get the raw audio only after I decided that the arrangement for that sound is good and I've exported the midi. Before I do that, if I really like the sound and I want to use it for another idea or something, I group all the effects and export it into its one instrument rack. That way, I could keep all my settings and tweak if necessary.

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: What/Who inspired you to start?

What got me curious about production (oddly enough) was this video of Hardwell in the studio coming up with the melody and that cool pitch bend FX for Zero 76. However, what really pushed me over the edge was a family friend of mine who is a hip-hop producer who showed me FL studio and the stuff he was working on. I became curious, grabbed a copy of FL studio, and just dove right in.

Like Ocular said, the drums have a hard time punching through. The build to the "drop" is a cool idea, and I think the break can be a bit more atmospheric. Maybe play around with dark pads and some other cool effects.
