Finished Tracks / Re: Mat Zo - Soul Food

Love love love the track. Also, noticed that in the builds of some of your last tunes (i.e. Soul Food, Collect my Love remix) that there are slight fluctuations in tempo during the builds, I may just be hearing things though. If I'm not, what inspired this technique in your tunes?

Wow, happy to see I've managed to gather some SP fans around here (Though it doesn't really surprise me) ! Those guys are such a gift to the musical landscape !

Also so excited for Family Dinner 2, have you seen the trailer?

Yeah, I've seen it and I'm quite excited for it, but it's gonna be hard for them to level up after Sylva with the Metropole Orkest, although these guys have never failed to impress me so far !

I love snarky puppy. Cory Henry's solo in Lingus is easily the greatest improv keyboard solo I have ever heard. I wish I was there for the recordings, they look so fun.

Oh man, that solo used to bring tears to my eyes more than once.

Haha yeah I would have to agree, they have never failed to impress me. I love how they keep pushing the envelope! So refreshing and exciting.

I don't own much analog gear, but one of the pieces of gear is the Moog Sub 37 synth. A ton of versatility combined with that vintage Moog sound. Also, there is incredible depth in the filter section. Love it!

I guess this could apply to any analogue-sounding synths, and any EQing tips that there are so it doesn't populate to much of the mix.

I downloaded a tonne of old "self help" and philisophical studies audiobooks, theyre great seem to be recorded off a cassette.

Here is an example (sample is half way through the song)

Hey man, really dig that track. Could you give me some tips into how to make that developing 'wow' sound you have that carries through the track?

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: Cool Free Plugins?
« on: January 08, 2016, 09:16:49 pm »
are their rest of the plugins still available somewhere?

Unfortunately not. :/ After merging it all went away. Which sucks, because my copy of camel crusher is corrupted :(

The link that is floating online still works! I used it to reinstall the plugin to fix an error http://www.audiopluginsforfree.com/camelcrusher/

Were you able to get that audiopluginsfree link to work? I get as far as downloading the zip file but it doesn't allow me to open the DMG file to download. Any suggestions?

Hey y'all ! First post and I though I should celebrate my arrival in this community by sharing some (non electronic) music I like.

Some people may know them already as they are making quite a bit of buzz in the jazz/fusion (or acoustic, whatever...) scene. Their music really opened my mind about band, acoustic acts and I went to see them playing at L'Olympia in Paris with an orchestra and, MY GOD, that show was MENTAL really ! Anyway that track is the first song from their 2014 album (We Like It Here), but you really could listen to all their discography as everything they do is PURE GOLD ! You should really watch the video too, as it does a great job at showing their energy (as well as the energy from the public) plus the fun they're having at playing their shit, which is priceless IMO. I Really hope I can bring some people to enjoy their music or help people find different inspiration.

Other standout tracks :
Snarky Puppy - Lingus
Snarky Puppy & Metropole Orkest - The Curtain
Snarky Puppy - Thing Of Gold
All of their discography...

NB : Forgot to mention they won a GRAMMY in 2014 for "Best R&B  Performance". Kudos to them !

Wow I love seeing other SP fans, those guys are so amazing. Seen them live 3 times now and they blow my mind every time still. Also, really cool to see someone who likes the old SP stuff (my favorite track of all time is probably Thing of Gold, probably because of my addiction to Moogs). I also love all the solo stuff they are doing: Bill Laurance, Cory Henry, Shawn Martin, FORQ, Ghost Note, all have albums that are ridiculously cool. Sorry I'm just so excited to see other Snarky Puppy fans in the forum!

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Tips for EQing Analog Synths
« on: January 08, 2016, 01:23:10 am »
I wanted to start a conversation on EQing analog synths, which I often struggle with because they are often so harmonically dense. The hardest in my opinion are when playing in the low-mids on a paraphonic (2 voices) synth, such as a Moog. For example, playing the root of the chord as well as the 3rd an octave up. Anyways, just wanted to hear some of your thoughts, thanks!

Some interesting sounds there for sure! Did Mat Zo's Serum Jungle sound design inspire you?

Did you use Serum's reverb? In my experience the reverb is probably the weakest part of Serum.

Yes, yes, and yes! Mat Zo's jungle inspired me to do it initially, and actually has gotten me even more passionate about sound design in general. Totally agree that the reverb is the weakest part of Serum. I used Valhalla Vintage Verb, which I really like!

Just thought I'd share this soundscape that I made recently. Every sound is self-made in Serum, no samples are used. Let me know what you all think/what improvements you thing could be made, thanks!

Saxophone. I still believe (even though I'm biased), that the saxophone is really a one of a kind, expressive voice. I use it to write melodies all the time, and often get inspiration from playing in bands/combos.

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: Why do you do it?

Art for the sake of art. So much of our world is changing rapidly and going to shit, but music isn't going anywhere. It's exciting to be creative and expressive in a day where we have thousands of unique tools at our fingertips! And we can use those tools to spread the various emotions we feel on a day to day basis.
