Sounds like an FM kind of sound or wave table with some weird phaser/flanger effects going on. I would probably mess around with Serum to get something similar!

thank you, def gonna have to fuck with fm

honestly, it's all down to creative choice... if there were rules for this then all music would sound the same as everyone would be choosing the same sounds

it's out of key

i like it! the snare's a bit too piercing & loud for my taste & i'd have tried to switch up the chords or at least the topline of the piano at some point but overall it's pretty chill, nice man

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Is mastering always neccesary?

I think the best example of no mastering has to be either Passion pit's first ep or Daft Punk's homework (which was mastered on a boombox)

Just the rawness really adds to the whole vibe, they both really feels like they've been recorded in someones bedroom somewhere.

Although SebastiAn's production is literally mastering based and its all compressed as hell
Doesn't stop it from being awesome tho

i know deorro doesn't master

Super intense mix man! I hear every-thing very clearly & the bass sits just right. I can't say anything bad about it, maybe do some change-ups add variety to the second drop, so it not as predicatable, but even with how it is now...it's mind-blowingly good!!! I love the emotional transitions and build-ups. Please make more!

Thank you mann!!

This sounds really good, I hope you're sending this out to some ears out there. You definitely have the idea of mixing. If I were you I would throw in more of a triplet feel in that second drop to switch things up. At 0:52 that kick pattern, I would keep that kick pattern going and fade it down and just put a glitch on everything so it sounds like it's going into the kick, then glitch it back out to where it sounds like it's coming back out of the kick. Almost like a heart beat effect.
Rad man

Also thank you!

I see where you're both coming from with the adding variety, structure is something I usually struggle with & I'm gonna work on improving that with the next song. Appreciate the feedback from both of you! Will definitely take it all on board  ;D

ohhhhh, what i'm saying is that nobody would actually pay thousands for them if they were the same...
i'm not suggesting that price equals quality, just that there are obviously differences if people are paying a shit tonne of money for them

quote clean up...

glad we're on the same page.

yes but what would make the price point be considered that much money and why would people consider aiming to have those plug ins?

it varies from plug-in to plug-in, some colour the sound is as far as i can confidently go... someone else is better off explaining how they're different

There are differences otherwise we'd all just use the stock plugins of the daw we use.
Waves would never be able to sell their plugins for thousands if it all sounded the same!  ;D

sounded the same or production costs.

i'm still not really sure what your getting at, lol

you're talking about price and quality, when the price could just be a factor of production costs. IE, the cost that goes into making the product.

You'd want to think that the higher cost means quality, but that could just be a factor of the production side.

There's nothing wrong with using 1 hat. If your song sounds great with 1 hat, then use 1 hat.
If you want variation, then use multiple. This is really a creative choice, hats are just another percussive instrument.
I've never heard of using a hi-hat as an arp though :o
