Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: What is your DAW template?

Hmmm, I think a good tip is to take things you learn on the internet with a grain of salt. There's alot of misinformation out there and you should always try and figure out why exactly you're doing something you saw online instead of following it blindly.

I'm the same as you OP, I've made a routine to work on the important stuff that doesn't depend on inspiration (sound design, theory, etc.). For inspiration I'm always looking through pixiv and tumblr for cool pictures or I'll just go for a drive and try and take in the scenery. I started one of my favorite songs I've made after realizing how pretty the moon looked one night while I was driving, but mostly all of my songs start with a picture that made me go "woah". Art is such a powerful tool to get inspiration from.

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: What/Who inspired you to start?

For me it was Avenged Sevenfold when I was like 13/14 and I've been playing guitar and making music ever since  ;D

Porter was the first electronic musician I listened to where I realized how genuine electronic music could be, so my vote will always go to him. If it weren't for Worlds I might've stopped producing electronic music.
favorite song from worlds? mines fellow feeling
Mine is probably flicker, but anytime I wanna put my production and musicality in perspective I listen to fellow feeling just to remember I suck lmao.

You'll never be motivated all the time, I started to read heavily on self discipline when I realized I wasn't spending as much time as I could be on production and now I have a routine that I make sure to stick to and my productivity has gone through the roof.

Mixing/Mastering / Re: DONT MIX WITH ANY HEADPHONES MADE BY BEATS BY DRE!
« on: January 06, 2016, 08:43:19 pm »
I'm pretty positive Skrillex does his mixdowns on Beats by Dre, obviously we're not all Skrillex but as long as you're used to the headphones you're mixing with then you should be able to compensate. I'm a firm believer of constantly referencing your mixdowns with well produced songs (my FL studio template is literally just "Flicker" by Porter Robinson to use as a reference track, lol), which will keep your ears in check regardless of what headphones you use.
Skrillex has said before that he uses ATH-M50s to mix his tunes.
Oops, my bad! You're right I just googled it and I don't know where I got the beats thing because I can't find anything other than he apparently uses them for live performances. I still stand by the second part of my post, though.  :-X

Valhalla shimmer + Edison for the best atmospheric stuff ever. :D

Composition/Arrangement/Theory / Re: Remixes

Like for remix competitions, why on earth do they give out the stems ? Do people actually take the long ass wav file of the songs "drums (example)" and do shit with it?

I'd say lots of genres in electronic music heavily use sampling so having all the stems is definitely an asset. For me personally I'll only use drum fills and the vocals.
