Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Logic CPU optimization thread!
« on: February 27, 2016, 10:03:11 pm »
Ok.

Early 2011 Macbook Pro 2.3 ghz i5 processor, 16 gb RAM, 1 TB ssd with plenty of space, external sample HD

I continually run into Logic CPU overloads, I have turned my sample/buffer rate way up to lower CPU, I freeze all tracks I am not currently working on,  can any of you provide some tips and tricks are aren't obvious maybe to create better CPU usage of Logic?

Thanks!

Mixing/Mastering / Mastering with the kick near 0 dB
« on: February 19, 2016, 06:42:56 pm »
So I've been composing my tracking with all the tracks near - 20 dB and leaving the kick near 0 dB. When I master the track should I turn down the kick to near the other tracks volumes?

Sound Design / Help with "smoothing" out my white noise/tonal risers
« on: February 17, 2016, 05:40:53 pm »
Hey guys,

Was wondering if anyone could help me out with the design of my white noise and risers. Right now I'm using sylenth to create the white noise and I find it has a gritty aspect to is even after applying shitloads of reverb and delay etc. Same goes for my tonal risers when I change one of the oscillators in sylenth to a sine wave. What is your approach for creating a breathy smooth white noise in your tracks?

What audio units do you use? What do you use to generate your white noise?

Thanks appreciate it

Composition/Arrangement/Theory / Arranging Buses
« on: February 06, 2016, 06:38:53 pm »
Can someone please explain to me how to arrange things in busses for logic pro x? New to production and I'm struggling to find a good youtube tutorial.

I get how to arrange layers to route to different buses in groups to add EQ and FX to the kick, the melody, percussion, chords etc but then what? Do I route them somewhere else? Do they automatically route themselves to stereo out?

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Mixing/Mastering / Struggling with dB levels!
« on: February 05, 2016, 01:08:15 am »
Hey, so I'm learning mastering but before I start the mastering process I'm struggling with a concept I cant seem to find an answer to. I know you need some headroom on all your tracks, I use logic and I set the dB to -6 on every track. Most often the synth or whatever sound I use will still shoot the dB level up over 0 dB on that track. Should I adjust the dB slider to whatever keeps the dB level around -6 when the sound is played at its loudest? or just make sure its set at -6 dB?

I feel like after typing this out I know the answer now but just to be sure... any thoughts? Tips? My last track had portions that were too loud when I tried to master it.

Also, before mastering the master track at -3 dB, can I make it -3 dB by adjusting the master slider or should the master slider be at 0 dB and the all the tracks feeding into it sum up to - 3 dB
