Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: Komplete
« on: June 03, 2016, 08:39:01 pm »
Do you guys think that the sale they're having right now is a good price? Do they have sales that go lower than this?

Hey guys. Didn't see a post talking about this. Komplete 10 is $399. Does anyone know if this is a good deal so I can know whether or not to pull a trigger on this? (this isn't a post about whether or not I need Komplete, I'm just asking if there will be better sales this year)

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Production buddies?

Do any of you guys have friends who produce music, online or in real life? How did you meet them? I'm at a loss because I don't know anybody irl who make music.

getting emotional over here.. I had produced for about a year or two before listening to worlds, but when I listened to worlds and saw his live performances I sat myself down and made it my goal to produce to make music and get big so that I could see porter one day/collab with him. It's a little farfetched, and my goals are different now. but your song has a little bit of what I first felt for worlds :)

Thanks for the advice again. I'll try to make my next song less repetitive.

The kick needs to hit harder.
Which version of the kick, the layered one in the climax or the kick that plays everywhere else?

-Annie

Both kicks. I would suggest finding a good sounding kick instead of layering. Sample choice > layering/post processing

no flaws except that you're not collabing w/ me lol

23
• used too much reverb on the vocals and it cluttered up the mix. plus the vocals can't really be heard, if you want them to be the main focus of certain parts of the track.
• automate the saw pad
• practice panning more
• Elements in non-drop sections were too low in volume and barely audible, a stark contrast to the drop with super loud levels.

do you use ableton live for your DAW?

24
Pros:
• cool bass patch in the drops
Cons:
• the impact noise at the beginning is cheesy. same thing can be said for the other risers. select quality samples that fit your track
• automate the initial synth (not the bass) so that it doesn't get too repetitive. It's really repetitive as it is
• the kick's release is too long and conflicts with the bass in the intro of the track, try to clip the kick's tail or pick a different kick
• learn proper sidechaining
• when your bass comes in it's often too loud and the rest of the track doesn't have enough room to breathe. this is where EQing can come in and clear up problem frequencies. on a side-note, the bass sounds too mono and could use a little stereo treatment. it would be nice for the bass to have more upper harmonics to cut through the mix a little more

25
i would definitely want to hear more variation in the sounds so it doesn't sound to repetitive also work on your mixing a bit i feel the bass is a bit overpowering
Yeah I agree, the bass is definitely overpowering.

This is a nice, chill track. The drop was well sidechained and, style-wise, well arranged to come in well after the rise. Good melodic and harmonic elements, too. Also I love the little vocal edits you have here and there (not just in the drop but in the break/riser as well). They really add texture to this track.

I can't hear any downsides to this track. The kick at times sounds weak, but that's the only thing I can think of off of the top of my head. Great pads, man. Great music, too, keep it up.

Pretty much all of the problems in this track are just due to inexperience. The kick needs to hit harder. Learn how to sidechain and compress. Also learn how to gain stage. Keep producing man. Sample selection is also important. Learn how to EQ and automate a little bit more.

Sound Design / Re: How to go about making this pluck?
« on: May 31, 2016, 01:33:03 am »
It's deceptively simple.

Start with a sin wave.
Use amp envelope with almost no attack and a short decay.
Use pitch envelope with a tiny decay and one octave range.
Add a keytracking lowpass filter that is 3 octaves above the note.
Portamanto/Glide that is less than 20ms.
Delay.
Reverb.

Yeah pretty much this.

umm you didn't do the poll right lmao.

my best advice for you is to keep making music and have fun making it. I don't have any specific producer techniques for you since if I tell you them, you'll have a higher chance of following those rules religiously, so for the time being just have fun :)
