the beginning was honestly kinda hard 2 hear. the sounds good from the mixing pov, everything sounds really crunchy n distorted, im assuming this is what u went for tho.. nice

Oh no!  Do you mean painful or too quiet?  Yes had to go for that rough sound to compliment the older parts - they're the rougher parts in general, but I'm happy with the sound, it's nice to make something a bit dirty.

Thanks for checking it, really appreciated!

Jeeez Matt you've gone in ! I've held off for so long ,but think it's time to start . My fav is the Prophet 12 and the Sub37 .

I'm about to off my MKS50 and Little Phatty towards the new OB6 when they're for sale in the UK, but would be curious to know how the P12 stacks up in terms of sounding analogue, given it's more towards digital?  Or is it all about the immense sonic palette with the P12?  I just worry the possibilities might be too much and the sound not as warm.

Don't they appear in the rear of manuals anymore, or is that just for Roland and Yamaha?  Would have thought Dave Smith would have certainly.

Hello!  Here's my latest, a track that was started and (mostly) finished around 2001, lost, then found on a hard drive, re-edited substantially with new parts layered on top and a full new mixdown in order to bring it up to date.  It's great to hear it finished, especially after 15 years lost on a drive and knowing the amount of tracks that get lost and forgotten over the years!

Somehow it's ended up a bit like the Floorplan like sound of Robert Hood, never a bad thing...

If you like it, check out the rest of the releases at kickingplastic.com!

Thanks all - I've decided to hold on as I may go for some hardware following a rather tempting NAMM and every penny counts.

That's helpful, thanks. Gonna hold on to see what NAMM has to show but will keep an eye on Serum and rinse out the demo. Cheers!

Soundtoys if you have cash, D16 if not.

Soundtoys' Echoboy is great for emulating the classic Roland Space Echo (amongst many others).  Eventide's H3000 Band Delays is a more creative one, similar to Logic's Delay Designer in that you can set 8 different delay lines with panning and filtering too.  For really creative though, Reaktor has a ton of weird FX units in its library.

If you're serious about production you're going to need one eventually.

And when you do buy one, don't scrimp, and it's an idea to buy one with at least two more inputs than you might need.  If you use microphones, synths, guitars, they'll soon eat up inputs.

I was considering Serum and Massive and am curious, how much did you sell Massive for?

£50 - check KVR's sale forum for good deals.

Buy Xfer Cthulu

Hi - been looking at Serum as an alternative pad synth to go with Diva and my hardware (A4, System 1, Reface DX). I was originally looking at a Blofeld as both have wavetable synthesis but at £110 Serum is cheaper. I like the integration of LFO tool into it too. I do different types of dance both solo and collaboratively so don't need teh latest vengeance / garrix / etc type sounds as such, just a good, solid, impressive synth. Is Serum it? Or Spire, though reviews favour Serum. I'm on Mac so no Sylenth.

I also have Reaktor 6, Rounds and Razor plus Ableton's suite synths (and Diva). I sold Massive to pay towards Serum so won't be looking at that.

Finished Tracks / Re: Emod - Heartcut [2005ish Progressive Trance]

PPK is the most prominent example of sine waves in trance tracks (I believe they were the first ones too), however sine waves are a much used tool in the later years as well (for example Kenneth Thomas' and Elevation's Preen), and as such I have incorporated them in my track. Nevertheless I wanted to thank you for your feedback, especially regarding the compression :)

No worries - as I say it's easy to slap compression on to force pumping into a track but soon as the bass drops it can jump in volume, a pretty basic error. Here, you got it just right. Will follow your SC!

Personally I found it too much, and it weighed down on me to use it all, or there was simply too much choice. I sold it and bought back the few I used a lot - Reaktor, Monark, Razor and Transient Master mainly. Mind you, I had ultimate.

It actually reminded me a little of DJ Scot Project stuff and yes, PvD.  I do love the sine patches on synths, just add delay and reverb and they sound great - as does this.  PPK have kind of owned it though!  It's good though, the pace is kept and despite it being a very compressed sound, it's not over compressed and doesn't put the track into the kind of pumping when people over compress the master bus.
