Finished Tracks / Re: Playboi Carti Type Beat
« on: April 19, 2017, 03:15:02 pm »
Strings are subpar, they need more automation and control over volume you can easily tell they're fake. The drums are way too loud in respect to everything else in the song, and yet the vocal "breaths" are actually louder overshadowing the drums. The snare is way too sharp, take it down a bit, Go hard and too hard have a difference. Most of the problems in this song are the mixing. I don't know if you're using headphones or speakers, but get better of whichever because they are obviously not giving you a good read of the volume of your tracks. The drums kind of awkwardly slapping around, so maybe fix that rhythm a bit, and also there is some heavy distortion that you can tell isn't supposed to be there, so learn to use a limiter, and if you are, change the settings appropriately.

TL;DR Take some time to listen, and I mean really listen, to somebody you'd consider is better than you at what you are doing, listen to how they mix their song, learn from those who are already experienced.

Also, in order to make certain that Mussar (and anyone who wants to throw their torch in?! ;) ) can finish anything or have the time to add what they want to, to the sample pack,
I'll be moving the date back just a bit.
Not too long, but I just want to assure everyone who wants to help the community gets the chance they deserve.
REMEMBER TWO THINGS:
  • Literally anything you want to offer will be accepted, as long as you own the rights to it. Nothing wrong with wanting to give back to the community, everyone can help.
  • I will make sure you get 100% credit where it is due,

All that being said, the pack should be ready early-to-mid May.

Definitely feels great to have the support of Mussar, glad to have your help!

They remind me a lot of the stuff I used to make.

Very relaxing, not the most complex, but for obvious reasons it doesn't need to be. Mixing just sounds nice all together for the context of video-game music. Honestly, I would love to remix, like several of these songs.

eidolin I just want to give back, it's not much but I really can't wait to hear people use this stuff.

I know it's uncommon, but I like to listen to them, with about as much consistency I'll listen to other songs I like, but none of my older stuff, that was shit. hahaha but I will consistently listen to my newer stuff because I genuinely enjoy hearing them, especially my favorite album I've made, Odd/yseey, as it is a project I made that almost perfectly into the ideas I had for it and it makes me so proud of myself and in my creative ability, not for egotism but just acknowledgment of how far I've come in 7-8 years.

Many people will want to say to not give up, chase your dreams, follow your heart, but I feel like I should just leave it at "You have done what you have come to do, now go." You tried and it seems your steam engine has run out, and who knows, maybe you'll come back a year from now with more creativity flowing than ever before, but quitting doesn't have to be bad, It is not what you want from yourself anymore and that's okay, go find another endeavor, it doesn't even have to be an artistic one, just do what you want to do. Your time is your time, and it should not be wasted dragging yourself around because you feel obliged to.

The sample pack is nearing its final stages and is currently getting the last bits wrapped up! It should be coming to y'all before April 20th! Anyone who wants a last chance to give some samples to the effort to support the community just message me, I check everyday! Doesn't have to be much but you'll definitely get credit!

Finished Tracks / Re: Experimental Remix

Thanks, Tieme Typhonic, and yeah, you're right, it could have done with some more complex drums, but I felt maybe the drums shouldn't pull away from the vocals, so I was maybe too worried I could end up grabbing too much attention from that, but looking back, I probably should have taken the risk.

It would be much appreciated if you all could support me on this track, maybe like or share it? You don't have to, but it would help. :)

Also feedback doesn't hurt either!

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: Headphones or Speakers ?
« on: March 21, 2017, 08:11:28 pm »
I try to run both, I interchangeably go back and forth between headphones and speakers, but if I had to say, I primarily go speakers, since my personal speakers are so good, KRK Rokit 6's, but my headphones quite aren't as good, but I like to check sub and bass frequencies with my headphones, really great sub response. So, tl;dr maybe both isn't so bad.

I'm excited to say that the sample pack project is back on schedule as I have gotten a new laptop, but still need to get the means to transfer my old data and work to my new computer from my old hard drive, though be it a little late, back on schedule. I plan/hope I'm going to be releasing the sample pack by mid-to-late-April.

TL;DR, I'M BACK TO WORK, DEAR GOD ABOUT TIME, GET HYPED.

Finished Tracks / Re: Vuto - Predator

You should maybe turn down the audio of the just the trumpet sounding lead, but only outside the drop, because the volume it presents during drop actually blends in really well with all the other "larger" sounds, but it remains the same volume throughout. Because the the audio is not actually that much quieter outside of the drop, the perceived decibels is making the lead stand out just a little too much. Main lead should present itself front and center, but it should still play nice with everything else around it, especially if it's present for a good chunk of the music.
.....
With that out of the way, I still actually like this, nice melodies, the upbeat halfbeat up and down of the main lead, with plenty going at all times to keep you interested. If it was more synths instead of sample libraries it would probably end up sounding pretty Porter Robinson-eque.

OH and this is just a personal note, but Predator doesn't feel like a fitting name. You think predators, you think harsh, dark, high energy sounds, but this is obviously nothing of the sort.

I personally don't like listening to sampling usually unless the sample is manipulated in a way you make it something unique, just saying that before I say anything. My critical opinions.
It's been a long time Coming: I didn't like this. It bothers me how little you did with the original sample. You looped certain parts and added some drums, that honestly are a little hectic and pull away from a good rhythm.
69: Does a little better in the vague sampling, didn't take anything to complex so it made it easier for you to loop. The horns and the strings are too obviously a sampler with little to no mixing effects and just don't mix well with the damp sound of the rest of it. The drums pull off a little better this time, and I like that pull away. If the piano isn't sampled from someone else's music, kudos on that because it mixes in much better than the horns and strings. drums play much nicer in this as well.
