WIPs / Re: Chillout Future Work in Progress (inspired by Mapps, Tennyson)

I'd tweak that tambourine-ish sound. It sounds very light, and in an unconvincing space that doesn't really glue with the rest of the track. I really dig the drop at 1:46.

I think you could make the vox sample from 1:06 - 1:15 into something more musically compelling. It's close, but could be stronger.

That marimba part that starts at 2:16 is cool, but starts to lose me after around 2:26 or so, and then gets a bit irritating. 2:36 - 2:46, I'd totally pull it out.

Cool stuff. Just some thoughts.

Sound and mix is fantastic. I think even the  industrial and edgy sounds work.

Didn't really get me moving. I just listened to it, and there's nothing memorable about it.

Trying to recall it now in my mind, I just hear some pots and pans banging, and a guy saying, "oh."

Honestly, it was kinda hard to make it through that one. But there's something strangely compelling about it. Like a bad smell that you can't help but breathe in deeper. Some of the sounds literally got me right in the gut. Like how an upset and churning digestive system sounds and feels.

"Food Poisoning" would be a title that would fit that track. : )

Yikes. Liquid pyrotechnics. Seriously wild ride.

They sound a bit dull, like there's a sock over them. Open them up. Try adding a dB or two in the +3K range. They need to be out in front of the music.

Also, sometimes cutting instruments at 3K a tad can create some space so they're not fighting with the vox.

Cocteau Twins were some serious pioneers of dream pop, ethereal wave, post-rock, and influenced a lot of artists.

Lots of great sound design and textures in their work.

The vocals could be a little more present in the track. Other than that, it sounds good.

Love the drop at 1:07. The way you mix up styles sounds great.

This track has an innocence about it. I wouldn't overwork it.

Great stuff, ELD.

I'd like to hear it superimposed in a larger body of work and hear how it all flows together.

I was going to say the key stabs starting at :30 could be brought out more, but you brought them in at :45. Very satisfying.

The entire song kind of acts like a tease. But it never really kicks in for me. I was expecting shit to fly at 3:18 and really open up...but it just sort of sank and sat there.

IMO, the song has so many times where it suggests we're going to lift off, and then it doesn't. Too much edging with not enough pay off. Leaves me in sort of a state of blue balls.

The themes are cool. I'd say you have to decide if the drums are going to take a back seat or a front seat. Either make them smaller and glitchy, and bring them up front and make them punch.

My preference for this track would be to keep it laid back and ambient. My 2¢.

Hey Pato, my only comment is that it's about 6-8 minutes too short. : )

Sounds fucking great. Really. I love this kind of stuff. Has a very fun, playful, and romantic feel to it.

If I was streaming di.fm or something in the Chillout station, and this came on, I'd notice it and look to see info on the artist and song.

Consider me a fan.

This is all pretty tight. If you're looking for another element, I'd suggest just a hint of grand piano with reverb on the part between 1:46 - 2:06. Just as more of a sound effect and texture. a not or two could do it.

If I hear anything missing, it's that the part from 1:46 - 2:26 needs another minimal element that gives it a bit more lift. And I think a piano note or two with a nice lush verb could do it.

My 2¢. Cheers...

Very cool stuff. I'd suggest you try this for the break that starts at 1:15. You seem to have everything running through an envelope that's pumping, and a lot of it is very cool. Try not pumping the bass and the lead pitch-bend sound. You'll still get the pumping effect, but some stable ear candy to contrast the pumping.

Dig the track. Keep polishing. Cheers...

Might just be me,  but I think that kick could stand to be pitched down just a hair more, and play in tune with the key of the song.

I'd cut a bit of the highs off that quarter note tone with a LPF. Just a bit to tuck it in.

I dig the gtr harmonics parts.

Very creative piece. Keep at it.
