Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: Looking for good Plugins!
« on: February 13, 2016, 03:00:48 pm »
if you have just started then I agree with the above comment about learning FL plugins. Decide if it is something you are going to continue with.
then if you are going to buy or steal plugins:

Cant go wrong with Fab filter plugins for processing.
Synths I like - the entire korg collection, Sylenth1, Rob papen predator, U-he do some great stuff.

There are good free stuff .....check out the TAL plugins or kjaerahus if they are still making stuff.

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: Windows 10 and FL Studio?
« on: February 13, 2016, 02:58:28 pm »
ive updated and my FL studio is fine. All my projects are still there and what not. I did have to re-install a few of my plugins though.
I still use FL10 by the way.
I also have FL12 and that wasn't so smooth - lots of my plugins went walkies so basically I stick to FL 10 still.
I have heard a few horror stories but in my case....it went pretty smooth.

what I will say is I fucking hate windows 10 and wish I never updated. I didn't encounter too many issues with my FL studio but I just really don't like windows 10.

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: White Noise/Risers

Dyro offers up a really cool whitenoise trick here when it comes to layering with your synths:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylwDBhdv-CY

as far as using whitenoise for risers and what not.....its just a case of using filter automations really to create those builds and drops. You can also layer whitenoise waves on top of other waves to create these drops .....then automate your filters or pitch envelopes.

pretty much everytime you make a white noise you need to tame it, especially in the high end. I like to smooth it off with EQ - cutting out the lows and the super sharp high frequencies - I often also put a phaser on it - mess around with the phaser settings and it can help tame abit of the sharpness.
more often than not......people simply have the whitenoise too loud. just turn it way down and get it sitting in your mix instead of loud and dominating the mix.

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Mixing resonant percussion into your track
« on: February 13, 2016, 02:42:07 pm »
you could also try something a bit more 'natural' sounding than making an EQ cut - for example some compression. To be more specific I suppose this can be achieved by a multiband compressor, or something like Fab Filters Pro-MB
You can focus the range onto the really resonant sound and then set it up at a threshold so when the sound becomes 'too resonant' (for lack of a better term) - or in other words if it is spiking a little too much, the compressor starts working and provides some smooth and subtle gain reduction. Give it a go. Often when I'm working with really resonant sounds I will do a combination of EQ and compression to see what works.
You can also try something a little outside the box to try smooth off that resonant sound - for example experimenting with reverbs or even phasers can sometimes make them appear not as sharp and annoying. I accidently stumbled on the phaser one by setting it to the phasers 'stereo enhance' preset and for the sound I was working on...with a little adjusting it did smooth that resonant peak out a little.

have a play around, hope something works :)

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: Finding a vocalist
« on: February 11, 2016, 09:56:04 pm »
hey guys.
Fact is.....unless you have a friend or something to do vocals for you then you will have to pay for a vocalist. Its a good time to be a vocalist because there is so many producers and so many people looking for vocalists.
I did my first original vocal track and found a super talented vocalist who also wrote lyrics for the song

found her on Vocalizr.
www.vocalizr.com I believe is the url .

basically you set a pay range  ( example 0-100 dollars,  100-300 dollars etc etc) and each pay band has specifics of what the vocalist will offer.
For example the basic pay range might just be a hook or couple sentences, then next stage up is a full vocal .......and so on.

Basically you post up your track then vocalists will 'bid' on your track and then you award the gig to whichever vocalist you like. you then move through to a collaboration page where you share ideas and the vocalist uploads the vocals.....once you are happy ....you release the payment and the vocals become downloadable.

pretty good site. Obviously - you need money to invest in it.

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Mixing at incredibly low levels
« on: February 11, 2016, 09:51:43 pm »
obviously it is really great for ear fatigue. You can produce music for longer periods of time when listening at lower levels but I find turning the volume down incredibly quiet helps with balancing your upper mids and higher frequencies.

A lot of mixes I listen to I turn the volume way down and it becomes very apparent that the high end information such as hats, rides and FX are way to loud.
To check this - if you turn the volume down so low in headphones so the audio is only just audible then if you can basically only hear your snares / hats / and noise FX then its probably a good idea to turn those elements down a touch.

Finished Tracks / 'People Will Come' - New track from me
« on: February 09, 2016, 11:42:33 pm »
New one from me! little bit of an experimental thing for me. I normally stick to progressive or straight up house but i took some slight progressive and tech house influences here. Some kinda old 80s style synths but more of a tech house rhythm.
one track of 3 on an upcoming EP due out end of the month.

Mixing/Mastering / production / mixing videos i have started doing.
« on: February 09, 2016, 09:03:00 pm »
Hello gang!
though id post a little thread in here letting you know of some videos I have started doing where I go through some basic mixing stuff.
I have only done a couple videos on my youtube channel thus far but I do plan on doing more. If there are topics people would like me to cover then feel free to comment on videos and let me know!
Unfortunately I use my laptop mic - so sorry for the quality on the mic but the point is to run through some simple production stuff.

Ive done little videos on reverb sends, some simple bass processing techniques and this one which is some of the vocal processing going on.
Perhaps some people here, especially people who are relatively new to music production may be able to take something away from the videos:

Gonna try keep making them fairly regularly.

Fair enough mate, I only got into FL at 11 so I never used the block system but heard it was a pain in the arse for people when they got rid.

I'm looking to upgrade to 12 soon but I'm a little worried about the upgrade due to the possible effect it may have on my plugins. Might have to research a bit and see what others' experiences have been.

the thing I found with 12 is that you need to use the correct version of your plugins. So if you will be operating on a 64bit system it makes sense install and only use your 64Bit plugins.
I will admit the upgrades they done to a lot of their stock plugins is pretty sweet. Some of my Go to plugins are only 32Bit though and I cant be arsed re-installing them all.

1. my workflow is better in 10. I actually arrange in midi but I like the fact I can just click 'pattern 1 / pattern 2' etc in the 'Block' pattern builder. I don't use the blocks for arranging but its just quicker for me.

2. For some reason no matter how much I match the settings, my FL studio 12 seems to have issues when loading some of my plugins. Ones I use regularly so its a pain in the arse for me. I do go in 12 when I want to utilise my 64 bit plugins like moog or something but then I export to audio and go back to 10.

3. I have all my shortcut keys setup in 10; for example if I am zoomed in I just press the number 4 and I zoom back out to my full project.

just little things I guess. but its what you get used too I suppose.

Mixing/Mastering / FL STUDIO users who are experiencing latency issues.
« on: February 06, 2016, 03:38:50 pm »
hi guys, this isn't a post seeking help, more spreading information. I don't know why I didn't do this before but something has been told to me which is so simple!
now all us FL users experience bad latency issues and I'm sure we are all aware of the usual:
buffer lengths / export to audio / switch smart disable on .....Etc etc etc   its been talked about on forums for ages.

now i have just been informed of a simple way to give you like 2-3gb more memory in your project. See i normally just launch FL from my desktop but it is set to launch your regular FL.exe file. This is a lower memory version of the program. It is as simple as opening the right .exe file type.
So i use FL 10 still.....(12 if i want to use my 64bit plugins, but i generally arrange in 10) ..... and my project was freezing and giving me issues and it was literally as simple as:

C drive --> Program filex (x86) --> Image-Line --> Fl studio 10 --> FL (extended memory).exe

then open my project in the extended memory version .....boom 2 gigs more memory and no issues.

This may be common knowledge to some but others it may not  -  so there you go. if you are getting bad CPU issues, give that a shot.

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Mixdown Question (Wrecking my brain over this!)
« on: February 03, 2016, 05:22:34 pm »
another thing I forgot to mention is in your audio settings ensure you are working in 6-point hermite in your mixer resampling settings.

go options - audio - mixer - resampling -- change that to 6.
When it comes to Exporting files you want to change your resampling to 512 within the export window but actually working in 512 within your audio settings will slow the fuck out of your computer.
