honestly I think this probably happens to most artists. It used to take me a week to write a song and it would be a STRUGGLE to get to the end. Now, I try and do the majority of the work as quickly as possible so I can hang onto the inspiration the originally drove me to that particular track.

I'll usually try and create something new every week which means constantly trying to find new inspiration. I think truly good songs do take longer than others but I think that after hearing the same beat/chord progression/melody etc enough times, we're bound to lose interest. A song is never as good as the first time you hear it.

Just try and take breaks and don't force anything.

man i think you had the right idea here but it feels super squished. I would focus on your mixing. Try and use less time based effects and focus on really carving your mix down to the essential frequencies. Good start, keep it up!

Real chill, could use some rap lyrics on top of it ;)

I would agree that the snare is a bit harsh but that is by all means your decision to make. Simple, mixed well for what it is!

Keep it up :)

really dig the vibe. Happy and melodic, mixed fairly well!

One piece of advice I would give is that the kick could be much punchier through the mix. You can barely tell it is there at all.

Aside from that minor detail, great stuff, keep it up :)

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Mixing an arp on top of a drop synth
« on: June 25, 2016, 01:23:28 pm »
honestly it's all about using the right frequencies and some reverb. I always used to try and mash sounds together whether it be samples or varying pads but I realized that making cohesive works is more about choosing sounds that fit together from the get go rather than trying to EQ the shit out of both sounds to "make" them work.

Play with the stereo field. I like to use dry pads and reverby ARPs. Also, try using sine waves or triangles for the arps if you have super saw type pads. They may sound a bit boring on their own but can honestly fit like a glove with the right drop synth.

Hope this helps ^>^

Hey bud! Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into it. What bass synth are you talking about though? There are two. The one in the beginning that hit's on the 1,2 beat and reverbs out, while the second one comes in after that.

let me know!
hey I was referring to the one that lands after the 1-2. It takes up 6 beats of each 2 bar loop

definitely a great start you've got going here. One big think I would suggest is playing more creatively with your stereo field. This is something I have really been working on lately. Making something "big" is just as much about width as it is about volume.

I usually like to pick one main element to make as big as possible. Sometimes my lead (in this case it would be tough since your's is intentionally very thin) so I would fatten up those pads. I read somewhere you want to try and aim for your high end being 100%wide, mid highs 66%, mids at 33%, and bass dead center.

Hope this helps :)

honestly not much bad I can say about it! I think you definitely hit your target. Very Deadmau5'y It is mixed well and the tune sounds very balanced. Obviously it's a WIP but maybe add a few more layers? Get some pads going, maybe another arp. Aside from that, good shit :)

Man I really like this! The biggest thing I think it needs personally is width. The main growl sounds almost completely mono to me. And that may have been a creative choice you made in which case, disregard the next part :)

Take that main mid growl that makes up the majority of your drop and make it HUGE. If it were me, I'd either bounce to audio, duplicate, and pan about 70% L and 70% R or use a stereo imager. Of course there's many ways you could accomplish the same goal. Looooooving what I am hearing from the breakdown so far.

Really cool stuff! I have been seeing more and more of these remixes pop up since submitting mine a little while back. It is quite interesting to see what everyone else has come up with. Yours definitely has a unique sound to it in comparison to a lot of them that had been posted. Good stuff :)

Always looking for feedback!! What could I have improved? What did I do well?
