Mixing/Mastering / Stereo vs Mono Sound Quality
« on: November 02, 2016, 09:27:16 pm »
Disclaimer: When I produce, I mix as I go.

Sometimes I have a clean sound on Stereo and when I change to Mono it sounds the same. Perfect. However, on some tracks when I change to Mono they don't sound as good. Flat and dull or not as bright.

Obviously there is something I'm doing wrong, but I can't figure it out. I tend to use reverb on all productions on various tracks. I don't usually do any extreme panning L to R except for on some drum parts. I have also looked at previous tracks that sound fine on mono and tried to compare them to the track I'm working on, but can't really see my mistake.

Does anyone have any tips or best practices to find my culprit?

Mixing/Mastering / Studio Time, For The First Time
« on: April 11, 2016, 10:48:47 pm »
I'm about to schedule some studio time and it will be my first time working in a studio with an engineer. I've got the two tracks I want to work on and my goal is to basically finish them off. Rather it be completing the mastering or tweaking some sounds, whatever it may be. I'm also doing this just to get the experience since I produce solely out of my apartment.

So, I'm curious if there is anything I need to know ahead of time. Any do's or don'ts. Anything I should expect that maybe I'm not thinking of. I just want to be fully prepared and maximize my time and workflow.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Sound Design / Vocal FX (Making Female Sound Deep)
« on: January 19, 2016, 06:34:04 pm »
Curious to know how others go about getting a female vocal to sound like a deep male voice.

I've tried the transpose -6 to -8 thing, but for me to get it closer to that "Tchami" style I have to use a plugin. For that I use Elastique Pitch. It doesn't work great all the time with every vocal sample but I've gotten it to sound better than the transpose thing.

So this is my method but I know there is a another way to do this. How do you do it?

R&A Graveyard / Thoughts on a "Deals Section" ?
« on: January 15, 2016, 12:01:44 am »
I'm sure many of us are on budgets and there are random deals on equipment all the time. Figured it would be good to have a deals section to help us all save money on upgrading or buying new equipment. This could also lead into a For Sale section as well, but not sure how many feel about that.

Just my 2 cents.

I have recently purchased Odesi by Mixed In Key to help me learn chord progressions better. I've never had schooling for music or anything so I'm thinking this will help.

I was curious what others, maybe more experienced users, think about it. I like how easy and quick it is to bounce something down to MIDI and throw it in my DAW.

Post your likes and dislikes please. Thanks.
