Finished Tracks / Re: NGHTMRE x Boombox Cartel - Aftershock (Remix)

The reverb really muddies the mix - I'd definitely cut down on that. Perhaps that would help with the speed issues too, because arrangement-wise there's nothing really wrong with the speed of the song for me, but with all the reverb and things going on it's probably difficult to hear what's happening without knowing the original well.

I'm a huge sucker for water noises like that. Feels very natural in the groove.

Heavy! Good luck on the search for label support. The master sounds fine to me, although I'm still working on my mastering ears.

I think I would enjoy this more with a more driven kick pattern, it's hard to tell, is it arranged in 1/16th notes at times? Those moments muddy up the lowend and there's not much to keep my ears on the beat. That said - it's pretty minor, but I think the kick pattern could be made a little simpler and more effective in places.

Did you get the acapella from somewhere or did you use vocaloid? I like the style you're going for in this one :)

Aw nice this is a throwback for me. Used to listen to stuff like this all the time - really well done :) Your melodies are good but to me have the most room for improvement.

I like this mix, it really keeps that constant balance between being heavy and weightless that the original has.

Really like the fat saw haha. I really like how the reverb on the bass sounds, but honestly it does make the spacing of the mix a little confusing, even though it sounds good. I like the song :)

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: How do you speed up the process?

One of the things that plagues me is I spend too much time listening to what I have to decide what I need next, when I really just get my hands dirty.

Mixing/Mastering / Re: About Mixing [Madeon - Technicolor]
« on: January 10, 2016, 04:06:31 am »
I believe that Madeon has talked about spending hundreds of hours on individual projects. I would bet that he's just careful with the addition of each new sound to ensure it sits well in the mix. If you do that, things won't clip no matter how many new things you add.

If you're getting issues with clipping, try producing with no limiter and set your default volume for each track to half-volume. Try fixing sound mix issues by lowering the volumes of certain things vs raising the others.

Composition/Arrangement/Theory / Re: Repetition: How Much is Too Much?
« on: January 10, 2016, 02:36:13 am »
My two cents: Totally depends on the style of music - if you're going for vibe/atmosphere music like ambient or clubby music then lots of repetition is crucial to make those subtle changes drive the song and to make the 'drop' hit effectively. But in other genres that demand constant focus on the music, lots of repetition can lose the energy and focus of the song.
