WIPs / Re: Fff - Stripes [Open Collab/Remix?]

Interesting dissonence with the variation of the chord progression. Great sounding drums in the intro part. Near the end, try to decide on a key signature. The kick drum in the end part is not in the same key, so it sounds out of place. Are you going for a trap main part?

Mixing/Mastering / Re: EQ'ing a Kick
« on: January 06, 2016, 04:50:37 pm »
I don't EQ a kick unless I'm layering a top kick and a bottom kick. Here's a tip that will save you a ton of time: whenever you create a song, make sure the kick drum is the same note as the first note of the bassline. It will save you a TON of time if you do this. And if your kick drum samples are labeled with their key, look at the frequencies on a EQ, or download Nicky Romero Kick and synthesize your own kicks, it allows you to set the key note. This is what all the big producers do and it's the reason their tunes sound like everything in the low end is so clean and nicely fitting.  :) ;)

You Might Like... / 2caves - Colour Machine [mau5 style prog]

So I found this guy on soundcloud a couple years ago, and he makes the same style progressive house as deadmau5. Not quite deadmau5 himself but his stuff is really great sounding and has the old mau5 feeling.
Check out his track Colour Machine here:

One of first remixes I did awhile ago, when I tried to produce dubstep.

Let me know what you think and what could be improved, so the next time I make a dubstep tune I can do a better job! :)

Interesting tune! I like the arp sound and vocal you used.
Sorta reminds me of Porter Robinson Worlds.
To improve:
-Less sub, was a bit too loud
-maybe have different basses, wobbles or metallic stuff at the end of the phrase
-has potential to become complextro

My favorite synths are Serum, Spire, and Dune 2. Dune 2 in particular sounds great but uses barely any CPU.

Mixing/Mastering / Stereo Width
« on: January 06, 2016, 02:39:08 am »
Hey guys, I was wondering how wide I should have certain sounds. Should my leads/main patches be really wide? I was trying to see if there's something that explains what width certain sounds should have in the mix. Is there a way to have a really good sounding stereo track that translates well in mono? What approach do you use?
