Depends on the sound that you're going for. If you're doing a genre like dubstep it would be in your best interested to have them hit at the same time but if you're making something like complextro, it might better to have it come in slightly before the kick to have that extra crunch ;P

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: good laptops for producing under 1k?
« on: August 17, 2016, 01:42:10 pm »
Highly recommend getting a Lenovo Y700. I have the older model that has similar specs but is from 2014. The laptop works great, has a powerful Intel Core i7 quad core processor with hyperthreading (8 virtual cores). It handles anything I throw at it easily, the maximum a project has utilized the CPU is like 78%, but it had like 100 channels and lots of instances of Serum, Massive, etc.

I'm not too concerned about starting school soon. I have a workflow in my DAW that allows me to create a laid out track within the span of 3 to 5 hours, so I can usually start a song one day and almost have it completely done within the same week. The key is to make the most of your time. I'm a full time college student yet I manage to produce music at least 10 hours every week during the semester. If you plan your days and get ahead and do whatever is necessary and beyond for your classes so you can be ahead, it will help you have that extra bit of time to produce music and really create the music that you would love to hear and see other peoples reactions when they hear it.

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: Being Original vs Copying Others
« on: August 17, 2016, 01:34:10 pm »
Being original is easier imo. The reason being is that you can create the kind of music that is a reflection of your life and your experiences, you use it as a platform to reveal how you feel and what you've gone through. When I create music, it is more of a spiritual experience, because I can relive the best and worst moments by creating the soundtrack of my life.

I'm more of a song writer/musician than a producer, I try to write emotional, powerful songs that move the listeners and gives them a chance to do a bit of introspection. Because I am using my life as a way to shape how I create melodies, chords, basslines, I always end up creating something that is unique, that anyone who has been listening to my music since the beginning can easily tell it is my sound.

Mixing/Mastering / Survey about Music production Tools
« on: February 13, 2016, 09:25:14 pm »
Hey guys, I have a huge research project that I'm doing for my college class. I created a short survey to get an idea about the topics producers read about to gain knowledge. If you have some free time, take my survey! Answer it honestly, I want to gain some insight and analyze the data later on.

1. Learn your DAW, learn how to use the plugins, manipulate them, etc
2. Learn sound design...watch as many tutorials as you can on youtube, or if you want really good tutorials, pay for a subscription to adsr (I currently do this, it really helps)
3. Spend time trying to make your music reflect your emotions. Emotional music is very powerful and helps you grow as a person.

I stay motivated by listening to my old stuff and comparing it with my new music. The more I listen, the more I realize I've matured as a producer, song writer. As a college student, I don't have much time to produce, so its essential to make the most out of every bit of time I allocate to producing. Another thing that helps is listening to the artists that got me into the scene. Zedd, deadmau5, telepopmusik...it gives me the inspiration I need to keep going until one day I have my own original sound that is who I am.

Using FM8, but NOT for growl bass sounds :P
I've found FM8 is great for ambient sounds, but does sacrifice some CPU in the process haha

R&A Graveyard / Re: Forum app

I'd support the idea of an app. The site looks really small on my Samsung Galaxy Note 5, bit of a pain to navigate.

I have the 8Dio Adagio Strings bundle, and I love it. The strings sound very realistic, almost as if you have an entire orchestra at your disposal.
