http://www.noisesculpture.com/how-to-make-a-noise-a-comprehensive-guide-to-synthesizer-programming

This bad boy covers the basics, subtractive synths, additive synths, FM, AND sample-based synths comprehensively all while still being an easy read.

I found this on the KVR forums forever ago and thought I'd share it here as well.

A quarter tone is the pitch between what normal pitches we know of in our chromatic scale. Instead of moving notes up and down the scale a semitone at a time (which is half a tone), we move a quarter a tone at a time. Quarter tones have been used in music around the world for quite an impressive amount of time.

My question is this, what is stopping this technique from catching on in western music? Is it because it's to hard for artists and composers to implement today? Is it too awkward and weird for the usual audience?

Bonus points if you can point to some producers using quarter tones now. I'd love to hear it in use, or even how they use it.

note for anyone in the future: the progress tracks are only being left up for 7 days. after that i'm taking them down to free up space on soundcloud.

The beat in Real Friends is smooth, and the vocals are on point of course. The outro is fantastic.

What snippet is given of No More Parties in LA is dope as shit.

Where my hip hop heads at? What do you guys think?

WIPs / Fff - Stripes [Open Collab/Remix?]
« on: January 07, 2016, 09:27:16 pm »
I started this track and I feel it has some potential but I'm at a loss with where to go from here. The chorus/drop/whatever is not serious, I just threw it in. If you feel the same way as me feel free to download the stems/midi and do whatever you feel like. Remix it, sample it, send to me to add some more, whatever you want really.

Or some feedback/criticism on what you think I can do with the track would be nice too. You don't have to waste your bandwidth and time on downloading and contributing to this crap if you don't want to.

also, the title is just placeholder for the moment, but if you like it then whatever. I'm drunk so i guess it's cool.

Finished Tracks / It Could Be - Stripes [chill hip-hop track]
« on: January 07, 2016, 04:10:43 pm »

After being inspired by the Dustera crew a few months ago (thanks to Borealism, he or someone posted a tape of his on reddit last fall) and a few trip hop artists I grew up listening to, I've started focusing on making some more hip hop/inspired tracks. This is the first one I've finished since then.

samples are:
It Could Be Sweet - Portishead
Funky Mule - Ike Turner
Chirping - Some crickets

Any feedback would be neato
