Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: Visuals -- how do they work?
« on: June 29, 2016, 05:25:58 am »
This is a very interesting topic, and the subforum isn't just for audio gear. Anyone have experience with this?

That's just the low streaming quality. Not really any way to prevent it. YouTube is better about this.

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: Giving DAW´s more power

No, games and DAWs use different parts of the PC for hardware acceleration. Games are graphics-intensive programs, so the graphics card usually has the biggest impact on their performance. DAWs don't benefit much (if at all) from graphics acceleration.

What's the lookahead window set to? I drop it to 0 for sidechaining.

Things would be so much better if every producer could figure things out by ear, thanks. I'll spread this one around.

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Mixing Vocals

What I mean by that is one second the acapella is at say -20 db, literally the next second it could rise to -10db. I know compression is used to balance the peaks/volume, but I think the volume difference is too much for a compressor.
No such thing. Just set the threshold lower. 10dB variation isn't out of the ordinary for vocals.

Composition/Arrangement/Theory / Re: Recomendations to start a remix?
« on: June 13, 2016, 01:48:30 am »
Different producers approach remixes different ways. I try to find the "essence" of a song, the parts that make it what it is (usually a hook or a vocal line), and build a whole new song around it. If it has lyrics, compose something based on your interpretation of it. If not, let the music tell you a story, then tell that story to everyone else.

Example: Pegboard Nerds - Hero

My remix:

I thought the lyrics were kind of grim for such a triumphant song, so the remix was inspired by a different, more tragic type of hero, like the Volsung family from the Norse Edda. The remix has a darker, bittersweet mood, in the melodies and progressions, and just a wee bit of influence from viking metal. Everything works together to tell a story, and that story comes from a different interpretation of the original version.

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Record label question!!!! please help
« on: June 12, 2016, 01:00:37 am »
Releasing through a major label could also involve various promotion fees, like advertising, radio airplay, photo shoots, music videos etc, so there are most definitely costs outside of production and distribution, meaning EDM doesn't necessarily get off easy. Labels might also have dedicated in-house mastering so all their stuff sounds consistent, and that could come out of your advance too.

It's an ad account, it was just shitposting to hide the ad.

I'm all into drum'n'bass now. Your tune sounds so cool. There's a good source for new ringtons and stuff like that, so if I find something like this there I'll be beyond happy
So that's why you're here, to sell ringtones. I was wondering what all the shitposting would lead up to. This was disappointing.

It's a decent start for "big"ness, though. If someone talks a big game, I expect them to back it up.

How big was "big"? I've literally never heard of him.
