WIPs / Re: [Flowstate] Trance + The 100!

Hey cool song. I don't listen to much of this kind of music but I think you should tune all your instruments to the frequency of the universe. It might seem weird but the music will resonate with you and others at a whole other level. It can almost completely change the mood of a song( this one of yours seemed somewhat dark to me)

What are you smoking m808, and where can I get some of it?

I've listened to this track a few times, and although the BPMs vary between tracks this really reminds me of mesmerise by Will Atkinson, maybe it's cus of the progression and vocals, but I think you've managed to capture the same emotion in this track, it gives me chills.

Maybe for that 4 bar pause, take the first chord of your climax, and do a reverse reverb riser leading into that chord (cut it one beat before the chords come in). But honestly, this track is gold, the idea is fantastic and the track just needs polishing now.

Yea, when those saws come in at 2:52 I was expecting more of a wall of sound, similar to the saws in Walter White (your saws need more noise I think). The vocals are amazing, gave me chills and the melody is the break is great, really well written track! ALSO, that 4 bar pause seems a touch too long, I'd shorten it down to 2 bars but that's just me.

Sound Design / Re: What exactly does a "tape stop" effect entail?
« on: March 18, 2016, 07:32:02 pm »
Don't quote me on this, but I believe the incoming signal is also being time stretched. When you stop a physical tape, it won't stop abruptly but it slows down over a period of time, therefore lengthening the audio signal.

I feel like you nailed the general vibe that Will Atkinson has in his tracks, but like Arktopolis said, you're really lacking in the low end. And that first lead is too nasally IMO.

Sound Design / Re: Progressive Psy trance Basslines ???

That off-beat bass in back to the 80's is pretty easy, likely made up of only 2 parts. It's got a sub portion made up of a simple saw wave, lowpass that whole sound at about 130 ish (mess around with this, could probably go a bit lower tbh). Second part sounds like a simple saw pluck, maybe 3-5 voice, some detune and spread followed up with some pretty heavy bitcrushing to give it that crunch.

Music is the drug bass, again saw wave for the sub, leave more of the highs for this sub though. The second part is 2 or 4 voices, probably a saw again, a touch of detune, and iunno probably a touch of tube distortion, or maybe foldback.

I've found that the less layers these types of basslines have, the better they sound. The key is to get really good cohesion between your kick and bass otherwise it just sounds like ass.

Honestly, the only thing that will get you anywhere near that sound is tons of practice. There's no tutorial out there that will cover trance basslines at that production skill level. The closest tutorial would be the one that Adam Ellis did recently.

Was fucking around in serum, normally don't make these kinds of sounds but this one actually turned out pretty cool (I think). I did a bit of post proc with some native ableton effects, but the bulk of the sound design was within serum itself.

Well, I've got nothing bad to say about this lol. That bass in the intro sounds fucking awesome and the whole track reminds me of the old Super8 & Tab stuff (might be because of Julie :P). If you don't mind me asking, how did you do that atmospheric sound you've got playing the majority of the track?

The bass could be tighter, you're definitely headed in the right direction with it but it lacks that tightness and punch you get out of that popular Kearney/Coming Soon/Vini Vici style bass. I feel like you might have a bit too much in the 150-250 range which can really detract from a bass like this. Also when working with the typical rolling bass, I usually make sure to shorten the midi notes a bit so they're not butted right up against each other and then give them a quick (but not abruptly ending) release, especially in the case of your sub, the release could overlap with the next note and muddy the hell out of your bassline.

I agree with what's already been said, riser doesn't really fit the track. The "breakdown" is awesome, love the bass there. The whole track definitely has an anjunadeep vibe to it.

Yea, link isn't working. You sure you don't have the track set to private? If so you need to use the link that shows up when you click the share button.

Cut down on the width of the bass (especially in the lower freqs) and EQ it a bit better, this sounds awesome just needs to be cleaned up a bit.
