Rules & Announcements / UPDATE: Verified Badges (1/7/2016)
« on: January 07, 2016, 05:23:09 pm »
Hello all! We've introduced higher-level Verification here on the forums over the past night. The purpose of this feature is to give you the power to know whether or not the person you're talking to is who they say they are. We'll constantly be verifying notable artists, record labels, and industry contacts on an ongoing basis.

The Verification symbol will appear next to a person's username, currently in four places: on the "Users Online" list at the bottom of the main board page, in threads whenever a notable account posts or replies, on a notable person's profile, and in the Members list. The symbol looks like this:

If you believe you are qualified for verification, send a message to @the_pro_fo (Twitter) and we'll see what we can do!

If you have any questions or want to clear up any confusion, feel free to reply to this thread.
- Rishi

Rules & Announcements / General Forum Rules & Guidelines
« on: January 07, 2016, 05:04:19 pm »
-Rules will go here after they are drafted-
But for now...

1. Have morals, be constructive, and be nice to each other.
2. Please treat one another with respect and foster a sense of safety and unity within the forum.
3. Keep conversation relevant to the board you're in. If you're in the YML board, post about music. If you're in the Sound Design board, post about sound design. Try not to go off-topic.
4. Keep collaboration requests private. Message each other privately if you want to discuss doing a collaboration. It's very important that you develop a mutual respect with the other person and their work if you want to do one with them.
5. No advertising is allowed.

You Might Like... / Re: Dear producers (not a track but an advice)
« on: January 07, 2016, 09:04:08 am »
Dear producers,

You should all have your email address on your soundcloud account for maximal networking. People might want to contact you, and emails are often used to do so :)

Cheers!

Definitely a good idea! Also the fact that many people might not know how to present themselves and their music online might call for the creation of another subforum - I'll talk to Mat and see what he thinks.

verification pls
obviously fake..
that's the point hombre

Mat and I will be contacting high profile friends over the next few days/weeks so that they can reserve their usernames on the forum. Along with this, we will be looking into introducing proper verification badges, so look out for updates on those~! :)

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Stereo Width
« on: January 06, 2016, 05:23:42 am »
How does this "everything under 150Hz has to be mono" works, I mean, how do you turn something that has a very wide stereo image into mono?, the kick and the bass for example; how do you know those low frequencies are in mono? and how do you make them mono if they are not?, and what are the benefits for having them that way.

Maybe I'm asking a lot of things but this particular issue is having me troubled and intrigued.

I use iZotope's multiband stereo imaging node and it's very useful. You can split the processing into four separate bands and change the width/narrowness of each independently!

For example let's say you have a reese bass - you would want the sub portion to be in mono, while the low mids would sound more aggressive and enveloping with some amount of wideness on that band

Multiband width processing is very useful and powerful for making mixes cleaner, adding interesting processing effects, etc. I use the iZotope imager all of the time, definitely recommended!

also to answer one of OP's questions: "Is there a way to have a really good sounding stereo track that translates well in mono?"
This comes with repetition, and good sound design practices.

My upcoming song 'Infinitum' is basically all Sylenth1! It's my favorite synth at the moment.
