WIPs / Re: Need some pointers
« on: February 27, 2017, 02:17:15 am »
Like the previous person's comment I'd start with getting the drums right. Somewhere in this netsky video he explains some stuff more in depth on that topic:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvcW4gyyujg

Next, I would recommend working on the melody. The idea itself seems a bit too long. There needs to be a circular type of progression to it. It should be repeating itself. If you check out some stuff on basic music theory it should help you out. Certain combinations of chords will give you a resolving feeling and these will help make your melody/chord progressions flow better.

Cheers!

WIPs / Help with a track idea
« on: February 27, 2017, 02:10:25 am »
Looking to get some feedback on an idea I started. Comments on anything from sound design to mixing, or even on the idea itself would be appreciated. Also tend to get stuck and have never finished a track because I tend to doubt my ideas. Any ways anyone works around this? Thanks:) PS. Kinda ignore the first part before the build up. not supposed to be there.

WIPs / Cinematic Intro Thing
« on: January 08, 2017, 08:19:44 am »
Just looking for some feedback on this weird intro thing i started. Any suggestions at all would be appreciated in regards mixing to sound design, etc. Didn't bother mastering this since i probably wont use it and it still needs some work. Check it out here:

I'm currently using a pair of sennheiser hd280s for mixjng and am looking to upgrade to some lower budget monitors. I've done research on both monitors and feel as though some other opinions would be good in making a decision. Thanks in advance!

Mixing/Mastering / Opinions on Flux Stereo Tool v3
« on: April 17, 2016, 01:52:19 am »
Just looking for any thoughts on Flux Stereo Tool v3. are stereotool plugins kinda like cheating at mixing? Should I be addressing the real problem instead of fixing it with this?

WIPs / Collaboration Anyone?
« on: March 13, 2016, 11:34:58 pm »
Working alone seems to get really boring compared to working on music with other people, makes me really miss being in a band. Anyways, if anyone is interested in making some tracks for fun and bouncing ideas off one another id be really interested. Also could be good for exchanging some production tips. Im also currently using ableton. An intro i started working on for a remix i wanted to do:

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Mixing in Mono vs. Stereo?
« on: March 08, 2016, 07:32:01 pm »
Thanks for all the help man. If you could give these two intros a quick listen id love to hear some advice on what you think would be a good next step for mixing these. Theyre both the same intro, one is just in mono. I haven't actually completed a song before, and should probably start using some stereo enhancers since I don't actually do that...

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Mixing in Mono vs. Stereo?

Thanks for the replies. What would you recommend doing if your mix sounds great in stereo but not good in mono? Should I sacrifice a good stereo sound to get it sounding good in mono? Or is it possible to mix it well enough to sound great in both?

Mixing/Mastering / Mixing in Mono vs. Stereo?
« on: March 07, 2016, 11:31:41 pm »
I was wondering if anyone could possibly shed some light on this issue. The reason im asking is because my mixes sound 100x worse than the stereo version when I check them in mono. If someone could give these two intros a quick listen id love to hear some advice on what you think would be a good next step for mixing these. They're both the same intro, one is just in mono. I haven't actually completed a song before, and should probably start using some stereo enhancers since I don't actually do that. I've also heard that the bass in the stereo track is too wide, even though i have a dedicated sub track that is already in mono. I'm guessing even frequencies above 100Hz should be mono too?

Composition/Arrangement/Theory / Best Way to learn music theory online?
« on: February 11, 2016, 02:55:48 am »
If anyone has any suggestions for the best way to learn music theory online it would be greatly appreciated. It's kinda tough when you don't know where to start and don't understand how all the smaller parts of theory fit into the larger picture (ex. modes)

Thanks!

WIPs / Re: My (Progressive House?) Song - Second track
« on: February 07, 2016, 06:34:59 pm »
sounds pretty cool man! Some mixing tips: Eq all of your sounds and get rid of frequencies you cant hear (example: on a sub bass you're gonna wanna roll off all the high end above usually 100hz). Another good step would be to pan some of the highs and mids to give them some more room in your mix. This video is pretty good, i highly recommend checking it out:

WIPs / Re: little piano piece
« on: February 07, 2016, 06:31:09 pm »
What are you using for the piano sounds? The track sounds great, especially towards the middle when more elements and strings are introduced. If you had a better sounding piano or vst for one the track would sound 100x better.
