also. ive been thinking of getting a little field recorder so i can record foley and claps and stuff like that myself, like VCTRLXNDR said. anyone got any recommendations for that?

The best mic in my opinion BY FAR for recording foley is the Zoom H4n: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001QWBM62/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's quite expensive, but it's everything you could need for a mobile mic.

Also, if you do get a mobile mic for foley recording, make sure you purchase a deadcat as well to stop wind f***ing up your recordings.

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Staccato Violin Samples

Anyone know where I can find staccato violin/viola samples? Preferably free if possible!

Tbf, your version isn't that far off. Theres obviously a few layers missing, and a small, wet open cymbal that could gel it together well. The only difference I can hear with the piano is that yours is a little dryer, but I'm talking irrelevant levels.

What exactly about the second version are you trying to replicate?

Sound Design / Re: "Aggressive" Sidechain Question....

For the pad sound, I'd imagine the effect is done through messing with the attack on the amp env, rather than sidechaining. Saying that, it is definitely possible to achieve via sidechain compression. The parameters you'll want are a very high threshold, ratio and attack, and a very low release.

Hope this helps!

Just one quick thing, your SoundCloud link doesn't work :/

The warmth only actually comes from a heavy low pass and minimal detuning, as you said.

Just to guide you to some potential help, I recreated on another thread the Flume pad synth for his Tennis Court remix, and I believe with some messing around on the filters and detuning you could probably get a nice, full, warm pad. Here's a screenshot of the recreation from that thread:

I'm having a mindfart where I know a sound, and I know I know how to create it because I've made it before, but I can't remember how to recreate it.

How do you do the high pitched feedback sound at about 4:51-4:52 in Dillon Francis & NGHTMRE's Need You? A variant on it appears at 4:56-4:57. It's just basic FM, right?

Yeah, just very basic FM (with an open filter and a decent spoonful of resonance) and a lot of distortion/bitcrushing.

Hmmm although it might sound easy I ve benn tryin for a while to make that high pitched almost percussive sound from Nicolas Jaar (at the beggining 0:07)
I ve used in massive a high pitched Osc (tried many kinds of waves) with a short attack-decay envelope routed to its pitch, and tried with LP2,Lp4 and also with Hp2 and 4. I also gave it a little tiny Fm. I am pretty close but I can't seem to get it that clear, my sound is more ringy.
ANy ideas?

Could you post your attempt as well, so we know where to help you improve?

The sharp stab sound that hits before the actual notes is achieved by adding a mod env to all of the oscillator pitches. Then add a slight bit of decay to the mod env (<150ms) and add a bit of reverb to the end of the chain.

Try The Voyagers Deep/Future House. Those guys are on it when it comes to that style of music.

I'm still a little confused as the arp sound comes in from the beginning, with only a change in melody at 0:18. Is this what you mean? Alternatively you could mean the other plucky synth, which seems to only be playing a single note over and over, which also comes in at 0:18. Which of the two are you referring to?
