Freesound is great for sure for general foley.
Sample packs-wise I love the deadmau5 percussion pack for all my generic drums, the sakuraburst sample pack is great for inspiration and the polar youth sample pack is awesome for some really unique perc samples. All should be easy google searches

Imo the bass in the drop needs a lot more low mids and thickness in general, that said the track overall sounds awesome im especially digging the gliding synth in the last part of the drop :)

Kick feels nice and dirty, good slow groove :)
It definitely feels like a repeated initial idea; needs variation like Mat said. :) I'm really feeling a jazzy piano riff with a tennyson sort of vibe (look them up) but really it could go wherever your heart desires, it only needs to go somewhere for some more interest.

Composition/Arrangement/Theory / Re: Theory for beginners

Hey man, great topic :)
I'd always suggest this pdf for people trying to learn theory. https://gumroad.com/l/tldrmusic
It's free to download and the writer is very easy to understand.
Also it has the rare benefit of starting at the very beginning.

Definitley for sure the Ill Gates course is amazing.
I agree for the most part with everyone else, my main addition would be that you should focus on creating an idea with your music first and foremost. A track that doesn't take you on a journey or evoke some sort of emotion isn't really worth listening to imo. As far as how that applies to workflow, think about what element defines a track the most for you, for many people that's the drums (for me it's the chords and primary sound design) nail that down very quickly so that you don't fall into any ingrained habits. DOnt dont dont start all your tracks with the same process because after a while they'll all sound the same. Of course mixing processes come into play at some point but writing a track should be a much separate thing than arranging or mixing it. A rough sketch is always a good idea, sooner or later you'll lose the feeling of the track because you overfiddle with small mistakes too early.

Also if you yourself stuck just leave the track asap. Coming back a month or two later, for me, is much easier than trying to force out a specific track from start to finish.

I'm surprised I didn't come across this remix earlier! Anyways, I do agree that it's a really clean track. I don't have any info to share about the producers but it would be sweet to get more remixes or original tracks from them.
They got 3 more remixes on Soundcloud that are equally great if you want to hear more!

yeeesss, though really anything Lido touches bursts into hot hot flame. (take this song for example https://soundcloud.com/alt-j/left-hand-free-lido-remix)
Producing for Halsey, Chance etc. gave him that pop catchiness for sure :)

Both Ocular and Puppet are very right, If you can't treat your room I wouldn't recommend going into a big monitor purchase but then again, none of it really matter cause honestly if you learn your equipment then you'll adjust your mixing to whichever you choose.

Yeah they're incredible :)
I know that one of them is Singularity, I'm not sure who the other one is but I'm sure everyone else will know (it seems to be an open secret on a lot of boards).

As the most general and conversational topic, I thought it'd be fun to find out what type of music is being made by people in here! vote for what genre best describes you (I know I probably forgot many major ones, just put "other").
