What big mistakes have you seen novice producers make often, and what tips do you have to help them improve?

This thread is a followup to my (wildly successful) first question thread in which I asked "What are the top three tips that you'd give to a producer with less experience?" This thread managed to receive more than fifty different responses that all offered great insight and advice. If you would like to check out this thread, you may do so here.

I'd love to see what expertise you guys have in store this time. Thanks!

I like some pop and alternative, especially stuff with a lot of electronic influences (Big Data, Strange Talk, Coldplay, Bastille, Chvrches, Foster The People, Troye Sivan, Sam Smith, Owl City, Kyan, Walk The Moon) and I've recently started listening to Gorillaz.

I would kill for even an hour with Madeon.
I`d love to watch some "In The Studio with Madeon"

If we could get something like that produced by Chivteam (the studio that videos for him) and put online as like a weekly/monthly series, I would watch it on repeat.

I'd really like to see how Porter Robinson writes his tracks. I think that I would learn a lot just from watching him write music. His songs are just so packed with emotion and they really take you for a ride. Pretty much the same with Zedd, he's really great at writing a catchy and fun melody that it makes me jealous.

On the technical side, I'd love to see Madeon's project files. He knows so much in terms of production, and is able to make tracks that are so busy that you can't believe your ears, yet they don't sound too oversaturated to enjoy. He can create these intricacies that you may not even notice upon your first listening of a track, and he's mindbogglingly great at producing.

Wow! I really like what you did with this!

The vocals really do a good job of accenting it, as well!

Nice job!

Link's not working. (Probably set to private and you didn't give the share link.)

Easy mistake!

If you can get custom earplugs made that is the best way to go. I got them over two year ago, they still fit perfect and they are a somewhat flat attenuation so the music isn't muffled. 10/10 would recommend.

I would love to get customs, especially because my ear shape rejects most earbuds I put in. (They just push themselves back out!)

Not in my current price range right now, but I would love to get some done in the future!

Any brand in particular that you would recommend?

Just go to a nearby audiologist and they'll make it for you. I just went to a place near my house.

What would we be looking at in terms of price?

I don't think this is the same Holograph that's registered on this forum, but this is a remix that's been going around for a couple of weeks now. This is the only track on their account, but it's already over 13.5K plays.

What do you guys think?

Maybe if you embedded/made a client that stayed on the side of the page so that it wouldn't take you off of the forum website.

Absolutely loved it. He started to play it in Charlotte when he was opening for Zedd, but he ran out of set time about 25 seconds into it.

Glad it's finally out on iTunes and the like.

Maybe not a a forum, but a separate page or site?

theproducersmarket.com

That domain's available right now!

Maybe make a market page, but they would probably have to run it without handling the money directly.

Maybe title it as:

Marketing and Promotion

and it would be nested under Production Talk

R&A Graveyard / Re: some way to search the forum
« on: January 10, 2016, 07:07:26 pm »
There is a Search in the top nav bar under the forum name.
oh shit, didn't even realize.
in that case maybe the search bar could be made a little more prominent so idiots like me dont miss out on its existence

yep, I totally missed it, too

maybe we could have it in the subforum pages so that you could search in just those subforums

and maybe put a search bar you could type into on the navigation bar, instead of just a separate page
