Mixing/Mastering / SUB Theory
« on: December 29, 2016, 10:44:36 pm »
Hello guys,

I would like to know what are your thoughts on where the SubBass should be sitting in the frequencies spectrum .I have found myself in a problem. I'm working on a track, and the Sub Bass is playing the note "D". My subBass within this note stands more or less in the 30 Hz, which might be too low. When I transpose it to the octave above it goes as high as 73 Hz (mor or less) which I'm afraid that might be too high.

What are your thoughts on SubBass placement??

Mixing/Mastering / Compression on synths
« on: September 17, 2016, 02:46:04 am »
I just don't get one thing. I've been watching a lot of videos of big producers doing a lot of compression on their synth leads and I just don't get why. The velocity in their midi info is the same so there's not a lot of dynamics in their melodies, but they always throw compressors In there.... WHYY???? To glue layers? to make it sound different?

« on: April 19, 2016, 04:21:19 am »
Hey Guys,

I've been working on this track for a while and I'd like you to listen to it and tell me whatever comes to your mind. Any kind of feedback is welcome, either you want to say something about the arrangement, mixing, or anything else please do.

Keep in mind it is an extended mix, so the track itself starts at 0:31.

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Using a MacBook for FL
« on: April 08, 2016, 06:25:39 pm »
Why do a lot of big producers that use FL Studio use a Mac for producing (Avicii, Martin Garrix) instead of just buying some high-end laptop like an Alienware or something else?

Mixing/Mastering / Using a reference track
« on: April 02, 2016, 10:11:16 pm »
Guys I have a problem. So I have a track done and getting my mix to sound as good as I can get it to be. and I'm using reference tracks to know how my track really should sound.

So when gain staging at first I do it so that the loudest part of my song is at -6db more or less. So I get a reference track and place it so that its volume is also at -6 db so I can compare it at the same volumes.

The thing is when I start making adjustments to my track so it matches my reference track I always find myself in a position that when it sounds the same as my reference track the overall volume of my mix is at -6 db, but I have some peaks that reach almost -3 db!

Obviously the reference track is mastered and has a limiter and nothing crosses -6 dbs, but I can't get my mix to sound the same without getting those peaks out of the way. I tried placing a limiter, but it just kills the mix.... I don't know what to do :(

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Disclosure's F for you vocals
« on: March 29, 2016, 04:16:12 am »
Yesterday I was hearing F for you by Disclosure and I loved the vocals they have. The effect is really appealing to me. The thing is I thought they kind of dubbed the vocal and added some king of reverb in the studio, but when I saw the live performance it was just one guy singing into the microphone. This made me realize they must be singing into some kind of harmonizer with a reverb and a stereo enhancer... maybe. The thing is, I don't know how they achieve that vocal effect... any ideas??

The vocal I'm talking about appears at 0:10

Mixing/Mastering / Compressing Synths
« on: January 20, 2016, 11:41:13 pm »
What's the deal with synth compression??
Normally synths come out pretty even in their dynamics. When you record a vocal you can really tell you need compression in that raw track (normally), but that's not the case with a synth.

Why does everyone seems to love throwing compressors on synths??

R&A Graveyard / Replying
« on: January 08, 2016, 06:53:44 am »
When you get into a conversation with someone in a thread it's really difficult to follow it when you're quoting, the conversation gets all over the place and other guys can't really dig into it and bring something to the table. A replying capability very much to the style of facebook and 9gag would really help get the conversation going.

R&A Graveyard / A like button

Sometimes you just really agree or relate to a post or reply someone made, but you just don't have anything to say to quote it and add something to it. A like button would be cool to have.

Mixing/Mastering / Sidechaining everything
« on: January 08, 2016, 06:22:56 am »
I want to know what you think about sidechaining guys. Electronic music is the only genre of music I've seen people sidechain as much as they do. Many people sidechain every instrument that's no the kick during the "drop" just to give it this EDM feel, not even thinking if that's the best decision for their mix.

Do you think this is because of poor engineering skills, or is it that the heavy sidechain is becoming more of a musical decision of the genre?

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Which sample libraries are you using?
« on: January 07, 2016, 11:10:39 pm »
Hey Guys,
I'm interested in getting to know which sample packs you are using. Apart from Vengeance I would like you to recommend me some good drums sample libraries (kicks, snares, hihats, cyms, toms, and other percussions).

Tell me which ones are your favorites. :o
