Frequency Modulation.  Try looking into synths like FM8 (comes with Komplete or I believe can be picked up on it's own).

I've heard good things about Spire but never dabbled in it (I typically use Sylenth or Serum).

Would really appreciate it if you find anything (I'm still looking myself and will let y'all know if I find anything as well).

Cheers!

Thanks for the response, yeah it's weird but I've heard these sounds a lot before somewhere but then when I wanted to experiment I realized I don't even understand them in a way.

Thanks again!

Hello,

I debated posting this in sound design but I'd rather use a sample pack if possible.  But I'm looking to know where I can find sounds that are similar to botht he drops for the following songs:

Both songs linked at the relevant part

Zaxx Dazzle - https://youtu.be/KDjXGGgh4L8?t=63

Ummet Ozcan Spacecats - https://youtu.be/Dn3ZMhmmzK0?t=75

As you can see they both have a very - I almost wanna say Dubstep? but a raw wub wub sound.  But it appears to be many different sounds which leads me to believe they are from a sample pack.

Really appreciate any advice you can provide.

Sound Design / How to make JETFIRE leads?
« on: September 30, 2016, 06:01:33 am »
Hey guys, I'm a fan of JETFIRE and noticed his leads seem to be simple yet complex.  I've tried my hand at layering various vandalism presets in Sylenth and Serum but leads have always been a sticking point for me.

I've linked a couple examples below (already set to the drop):

I really appreciate any help you can give.

Ahhh I think I see what you mean, so by shifting the pitch down, I'm also shifting the formants down.  I once saw a trick by Qulinez I believe where, in order to b able to have his kick play different notes, he would pitch the bass of his kicks down but leave a second track with just the "knock" playing at the original pitch, and a fade to cut off the bass, so that everything was at the same volume.

Still, that method required each kick to be faded (easy to do as you just do the first one and copy/paste for the rest) but vocals could be trickier.

I'm looking at some vocal processing VSTs and Waves VX1 seems to be popular (and not a bad price).  Would that achieve what I'm going for ya think?

Thanks again!

Sound Design / Need help getting that deep vocal affect (example inside)
« on: August 09, 2016, 02:13:16 am »
Hey guys I am trying to get that pitched down vocal affect used in a lot of house but when I warp an acapella in Ableton and use the complex setting, then transpose down, I seem to get an alien sounding affect.

I had forgotten about this issue until I heard a new Aoki track that used a Brandy acapella I had used before. After re-opening my project file I tried to get a similar affect as Aoki but no luck

Mashup I did a while back (would definitely benefit from the deeper vocal affect):

New Aoki track with same acapella:

So basically if I take my version of the acapella and transpose down it sound very alien/munchkin land style.  Whereas somehow Aoki gets a rich deeper vocal.

Thanks for any help.

Finished Tracks / Re: [Electrohouse] Sweet Cirkus - CHARGE

Hey just wanted to pop in and say I like this one.  I'm at work so can only listen on my headphones, but I'll do a little more critical listening a bit later.

Nice job.

Edit:  Just listened on my Yamahas and I gotta say it's real smooth. I don't really see any room for improvement.  Great work!

Hey Arcuo, very good feedback!  Let me know if you need a hand re-creating that synth!

I'll be sure to work on improving my lead layering and while I spent a little more time on this than usual, my brother and I have ramped up releasing a track a week in order to force ourselves to nail structure/sound composition and identify areas of weakness.

Good point on the bass, I am more than likely going to make a track that forces me to just focus on making a bigger bass to improve in that area now lol.

Thanks again for your constructive feedback, it has reinforced some ideas I had myself, and as always I have fun making these :)

Thanks a lot man, I really appreciate you taking the time to check it out (and report the spam lol ;D ).

I had a lot of fun with this track, as it was quite different from what I had done before.  I was really happy with the vocal chops and am glad you pointed that out.

I also had a lot of fun making the video (which was tricky since my brother gave me a LOT of footage of his trip to Ibiza, but all of the club footage was vertical, so I needed to figure out how to get it all to fit together).  That, and the laptop I used was SLOOOOOOOOW (video was edited on an older HP, but the track was made using a MacBook).

Thanks again for checking it out :)

Sound Design / Kaskade/Skrillex Bassy Pluck "Bobo" bass
« on: April 06, 2016, 04:15:18 pm »
Hey Guys,

I've recently noticed a sound which is almost like a bass/pluck and sounds almost like it's goin "bo bo".  Almost sounds like some kind of woodwind instrument (I'm picturing something made out of bamboo lol)

To make it easy I have linked the videos at the respective times so it should play immediately

Kaskade - Let me Disarm You
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=3qen7he4Y7c#t=70

Skrillex - Sorry
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ELbX5CMomE&feature=player_detailpage#t=67

Now I know one could try and sample this but that's no fun :)

Any advice is appreciated (or if you know a sample pack/preset that has it I can study the sound on its own).

Thanks a lot for any help you can provide.

Hey guys, I'm really proud of this track but would love some feedback.  I made the video as well, which was almost just as time consuming as the track itself.

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Looking for a specific arp sample
« on: March 09, 2016, 07:08:09 pm »
Hey guys,

I've been playing around with arps for the past few years and feel like I am good at manually placing notes in fairly complex patterns, but there is one arp that I keep hearing all over the place and want to analyze more than just the notes themselves.  I'm assuming this is a vengeance sample or something but I would like to hear just the arp without the rest of the tracks around it.

The following tracks are examples (links start where the arp appears so you should hear it immediately)

Pierce Fulton - Kuaga

The Chainsmokers - Until You Were Gone
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FRvZe7sY0U&feature=player_detailpage#t=128

Thanks a lot for any help you can provide!
