Nils Frahm - Keep (Sal Sonder Bootleg Remix)
« on: January 08, 2016, 01:33:22 pm »
Hey guys, my first post here. I used to visit forums a lot way back; trance.nu, Anjunabeats, tranceaddict etc. It's been over 10 years since I started producing, under different aliases though, and mostly trance. To kick off my first post here's a bootleg I finished recently, a remix of Nils Frahm's Keep from his album Felt. The original is an ambient/classical piece, my remix is progressive/deep-tech club track.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaY6KtSzzbQ (YouTube link since I don't know how to embed it).

Hoping for your feedback and if you'd like a download link ask me.

Thanks to Mat Zo and whomever else is involved in creating this forum, I've seen him and most of the producers/djs here live at some point and also regularly follow their work.

Hey dude, nice vibe to the track.

Some feedback -

The bass could do with some more processing,SC,some eqing and maybe some compression to make a bit fatter and tighter.
The perc could be a little stronger and have more drive too.
Melody is alright too :)

Bass needs more bite. Considering there are no chord-synths filling the high-mid frequency space, you could easily give the bass som more high-end!

The percussion is awesome with the marimba/bell-ish stagnatic rythm. But you need to decide if the percussion is swing of regular (don't remember the term), the hi-hats doesn't follow the swing-rythm of the bells/marimba, which really ruins the flow of the song.

In general i am liking this a lot.

Thanks for listening and for your input, guys! Will take the feedback in mind for the next production. I wanted this track to sound dusty and imperfect (such as the original), and in general I think I achieved it. The mix needs a little bit extra work I think now, but since I sliced up the 320kbps MP3 and worked around it (original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmlUBeiE6Tc), it went pretty okay.

Thanks again!

I really like it ! The way you complete the harmony and introduce all the new elements was great.

I feel like you can improve more the bass by making a sidechain to the kick, also i think you can add more brightness on the high frequencies (this could be make on the mastering chain).

But overall,it is a really great song.

I produce on Yamaha HS80m in an untreated room, but I've gotten to know the Yamaha's over 5-6 years of use and I get by. But I just got the BeyerDynamic DT770 PRO for reference few days ago, and I hope to fix my lack of highs in future productions. Cheers! :)

I love this. Element separation is well executed, and stereo width on the upper mids is great. I love the stereo movement in this entire track. That bass is really well placed in context with the rest of the mix. My only complaint is with the pad in the break - I feel like it opens up too much at times.

Great otherwise. Keep at it.

This is so beautiful! I love the contrasting rhythms between the mallet instrument and the background percussion. And so much space and width to it; I just feel lost in the complexity! Incredible!

really dig this, i do think the low end needs to be more powerful like others have mentioned. kick could probably come up 1-2db and a bit of EQ boost on the low end of the bass should bring it up to scratch
