Mat Zo, 'Easy' Lead Synth
« on: January 08, 2016, 07:43:38 am »
I'm hoping Mat will see this, however if he doesn't, all responses are welcome. I'm curious to know if there was anything particularly special about the synth used in 'Easy'. It has quite a bit of character, so I'm wondering if this was simply due to how the chords were structured or if there was some interesting layering going on. Any explanation or input on how this sound came together would be greatly appreciated!

That was porter's lead sound, and I can't remember exactly what was done, but you can make it in pretty much any synth. A saw and pulse/square wave together plus a bit of chorus and vibrato and a LP filter envelope with a slow decay. The processing was pretty simple too I think, just a bit of reverb under some multiband compression and maximizing with maybe a touch of bitcrushing.

Thank you so much Mat! Also, awesome job with the forum so far, it looks amazing. I like that there are no general discussions.

Hey Mat, thanks for answering. I'm curious to know what multiband compressing a lead exactly does. Do you accentuate the frequency ranges that are compressed more as apposed to non or less compressed areas (if the make-up gain is the same as the amount reduced)?
