I find often times, after an artist gains a notable following (however many people that is), they live a rather by-the-book and predetermined lifestyle (scheduled tour dates, scheduled studio time, etc...). I feel like this has the potential for limiting many previously available sources of inspiration (free time to go explore the world, girls that don't know you/care about your wealth, etc.). Do you feel this is the case for you? If so, how do you personally find new sources of inspiration?

I don't think demanding schedules would be a problem to professionals. They see the "big picture" by discussing with many people and touring new places. They are already skilled enough to find inspirations and motivations in daily life.

Going around the world playing shows is hugely inspiring, don't think of it as 'losing previous sources of inspiration' - but gaining new ones.

Honestly though, discipline is so much more important than inspiration.

Has there ever been a point where release deadlines have gotten closer and closer, and a lack of inspiration has created a fear that you won't make any tracks in time?

Not gonna pretend it gets hard sometimes. Sometimes I think I've lost it, but usually right at the moment I grab a hosepipe to attach to my exhaust, something hits me and I get super inspired and don't stop working straight for days.

The hosepipe thing was a joke btw, but I know that you know what I mean

I think my biggest inspiration comes out of hearing tunes from producers I admire!
When I hear a certain tune I am like DAMN how did they make that!!!!

Understand and create the discipline first. Quite often, the inspiration will follow, and when it does, you have the self-motivation and focus to really grab it and use it.
Build it, and they will come.

Might still be relevant despite the joke. I remember reading an interview with Chris Cornell back in the 90s where he said he thinks about suicide every single day, but maybe in more of an intellectual sense? He wasn't depressed or anything.

Back when I was studying music as a career choice, and later when I worked in the film industry, I remember thinking those kind of thoughts fairly regularly too, and I don't think it's only because I was broke and starving.

So it could just be something that frequently goes along with artistic creativity: pulling your horizon extremely close by pondering suicide forces you to think "beyond this world" in some way, or at least outside the context you've gotten used to.

Could you elaborate? Discipline in what regard?

Discipline is something like being able to set aside any distractions and start working on a song even if you're not feeling creative.
I strongly disagree with that quote though, discipline and inspiration go hand in hand, at least for me. Without discipline, you'll NEVER finish a song, and without creativity, you'll never have a song that you are proud of. What's the point of releasing a song that you don't really like?
