Personally I started when I found out my father was terminally ill. I'd downloaded FL Studio previously and never really bothered learning it, but started using it more and more providing an escape from the real world. Three years later when the whole thing came to an end I had learnt so much in production and spent so much time dedicated to it already, that I realized I could never give up and just carried on.

Daft Punk made me want to make electronic music, and Skrillex made me pursue making music

The first cassette I checked out of the library, when I was 9, was Notorious bu Duran Duran. At 18, in '97,  I heard Endtroducing, and saw Atari Teenage Riot @ the Metro in a 3 a.m. concert. Between those three moments, I was compelled into a lifestyle of fiddling with decaying, persnickety electronics.

I'd been teetering on the edge of starting music production for ages, but I think what finally tipped me over the edge was seeing Tchami live. Everything about that man inspires me.

(i could add so much to the story but this is just what inspired me and got me into making music)

Grew up on Classic Rock, and then around middle school in the 90's when fat boy slim and darude's sandstorm was played at school dances i fell in love with electronic music, and looked for techno music online when the internet was getting bigger and better. And continued listening to anything electronic or with keyboards. Was super inspired by some indie electronic bands like The Presets and Metronomy, Hot Chip, a lot of that new rave music. Always wanted to be in a small keyboard band like that, but never really pursued it. I was doing video editing and special effects stuff , making movies since i was a kid.( I remember using Sony Acid Pro 1.0 and making some trash sample based techno tracks, but never counted that as my beginning to producing)... So one day i had a hip hop producer friend install reason 5 on my pc and teach me the ropes. I started with Dubstep, but i knew in the long run i would tackle anything especially house and electro being a dancer and having my own crew at one period that danced to electro. I've kept up with producing ever since cause i loved electronic music and dancing and going to shows and also cause i really love programs, they are so fun to mess with.

And so 6 years later.

I'm still doin it. =]

So much good stories. We need a lame one. Here it goes:

I was into movie effects! :D Like ... really bad. Watched DVD extrtas, documentaries, got into 3D modeling, compositing, making reaaaaallllyyyy lame little videos with my friends. Few of them are still there, DON'T !!! ... try to google them, or I'll hunt you down and torture you! :D

...but then, i was like 16, doctors told me I'm partially color blind. That explained some stuff but also crushed that dream quite heavily. A colorblind graphics guy? Yeah right. I was too dumb for serious programming, so I searched what else cool can I do with a computer. Downloaded FL studio, drew few notes, sounded terrible, closed it and didn't touch it for like a year or two. :D

Then I got into listening to electronic music. ATB in paticular. That Trilogy album is still cool imho. :) I saw some footage from his studio and thought, wait a minute, I was experimenting with this stuff back then. Lemme try again. But I took it properly this time. Reading Wiki on Opera Mini on my old T630 phone during classes, learning about notes, intervals, chords, scales. Essentially trying to understand some theory first. I didn't have any music lessons as a kid, so this was kinda challenge. ...but I've learned thing or two. :) Then forum time era along. Trance.nu. Listening to old good Tiesto and Armin and PvD compilations back in 2008 - 2011. Anjunabeats then. Matt Lange, Andrew Bayer, A&B of course. So much to aspire to.

Definitely Airbase, everything he made back in the days was superb.
RIIIGHT?!?!?! :)

...well and it kinda stayed with me, this hobby. Now I try to fit in to that all mr.SuicideSheep / Liquicity territory. Loving guys like Ramesses B, MitiS, KOAN Sound, Sorrow, Etherwood. Those inspire me today. :)

Hope it wasn't boring too much. :D

...but don't overdo it, because that's called being a d***k.

Been playing the drums for lIke 13 years, did the whole school band thing and played in a bunch of local bands. Started messing around woth producing software like 4 years ago. Went to a few raves/shows and had a great time. Then I saw bauuer in 2013 and started spinning immediately after and started shifting my productions toward dance style. It's been within the last 2 and a half years though that I have really been hitting it hard.

In 2007 I purchased the compilation "In search of Sunrise 6" compiled by DJ Tiesto and it changed my life. I've always liked electronic music but here in the U.S. I was only exposed to Prodigy and infected mushroom and stuff like that.

With me being extremely creative and artistic growing up, I've always drawn, played the guitar, wrote lyrics, etc but it was until 2008 when I started composing electronic music that I finally found my favorite avenue for creating and expressing what words simply cannot.

I've played piano for my entire life, but my production experience began my freshman year of college when Super Mash Bros. performed at orientation and I convinced myself that I could make mashups just as good, if not better, than theirs were. I've since moved on to actually producing my own stuff, which I find to be a lot more fun and allows for more creativity.

listened to electronic music all my life (even though there were hip-hop phases, yknow nothing special lmao) and one day 5 years ago I thought to myself "hey why not make that".
the three songs that really got me into it were "Lick The Rainbow" by Mord Fustang, "Top Of The World" by Joe Garston and the Deadmau5 remix of "Finished Symphony" though and I still adore them to this day.

In high school I was more into rock/hard rock, but I was often asked from my friends to make playlists for our parties, so I also occasionally listened to dance music, but mainly just the "pop" or commercial stuff! But then one day I discovered the Prodigy, Pendulum, the bloody beetroots... bands that produced electronic music and performed it live... and was just blown away!! Haha imagine a rock fan that discovers the bloody beetroots after thinking dance music was just Bob sinclair or david guetta!! From then I started to listen to Deadmau5, skrillex, nero and so on...  until I eventually tried to produce music myself.

My friend suggested that I start. I've been a musician for years, but he told me to get FL and mess around with it. I had dabbled in production before, but I didn't make good music so I stop for a while. But once I picked it back up, I haven't stopped since.
